I was hoping one of you might tell me a site to go to for information on a SAK.On the box it says Victorinox Swiss Army Officers Knife. The paperwork says Swisschamp and the number 1.6795.The back side of the tang is stamped Offircier Suisse. It has 29 blades and tools. Thanks Arnold

Thanks for the sites.Yes I have the box and paperwork.I was wondering about app.value.I can't decide if I should sell or keep it.I collect Schrade fixed blades and know nothing about these. It was bought in the early 80s.Arnold

I'd estimate it's auction value at around $50 (about $10 or so $$ more than the cost of a new one). But it just depends what someone is willing to pay. Since you have the box and the paperwork, a couple collectors could go crazy on the bidding and drive up the price. Unless, you already have a favorite Swiss army knife, I'd recommend keeping it and using it.

Thanks.I had a Swiss Aire flight attendent who used to visit me two or three times a year and bring me 10 lbs of chocalate and a couple of SAKs.I hated it when she retired. Thanks a lot for the information.Arnold

At the time I was loving life. She'd stay two weeks give me the knife and chocalate and go home. Arnold

I think the question about the value of the knife has already been addressed here on Bladeforums and the new question is how to get a Swiss Aire flight attendent to bring us 10lbs of chocolate and a couple Swiss army knives! ;)

But there are lots of sources for information on Swiss army knives. In addition to Dunc5's and Schmecky's websites, http://www.smartknives.com has a very comprehensive list of Swiss army knives.

...In Bernard Levine's forum here at Bladeforums, I read that he tries to use primary sources for his information. I think that's good advice. Here are couple of links to some of the best sources for information on Swiss army knives: ;)

Even though they aren't "primary sources," I would strongly suggest checking www.sosakonline.com and www.sakwiki.com, both sites are loaded with info that you might not be able to find anywhere else... (unless there's a copy-cat site out there that I don't know about ;) )

The owner of those websites also has another website that you and Dunc5 moderate. As a basic member of Bladeforums, you can put those affiliations in your signature. It's great to have you guys here, I enjoy reading your contributions on other forums and look forward to having more interesting discussions with you here.

While that is true, it really has nothing to do with this discussion. I think both of those sites have a wealth of information about Swiss Army Knives that you won't find anywhere else. I also use the SOSAK forum at KnifeForums (which is owned by the same guy) and www.smartknives.com when I'm looking for SAK information.

Thanks for the info, but I've never been big into advertising a site in a forum that deals with the same type of information. (i.e. a multitool site in a non-related multitool forum) I've done it, and it always seemed kind of cheap to me.

Since this forum is to "Discuss all aspects of ...Swiss Army style knives..." you've essentially advertised your affiliated site about Swiss army knives in a non related Swiss army knife forum. Becoming a basic member of Bladeforums helps support this forum. That's the way to go in my opinion. If you'd like to discuss this further by email that'd be fine but I'd be more interested in discussing multi-tools and Swiss army knives.

I'd like to point out that I was referring to your suggestion about placing affiliations in my signature. If someone requests information (like the original intent of this thread) I have no problem with passing on links to sites that contain valuable information.

I'd also like to commend you're attempt to "take the high road" here. It was expected. I feel no need to discuss this via email. I'm positive we both know where each of us stands on this issue.

Now, back to the SAK & Multitool discussion :)
