G. Sakai has change the core steel of the enkuto's

Previously it was SRS15, now it's SLD (equivalent to SKDll )
They state: SLD is more reliable blade steel in terms of tensile strength, hardness, ductility, wear esistance and edge retainment
SKD-11 is the Japanese version of D2 (powdersteel?)
Is SLD really better than SRS15 or is SRS15 just not longer available?

Sorry, can't help you out with your question, but those are some great looking knives.

To me, It's a downgrade in steel. Srs 15 IMO, is better than D2. I believe it's a price saving measure. I have no idea if they still make SRS15 though. IIRC, it's ( SRS15) more of a HS steel like M2 than D2. Joe

These are relatively bigger knives.
Maybe for the applications they intend for this kind of knife they see a powdered version of D2 better perform than a highspeed steel like SRS15?
I would not have thought a highspeed steel would be a good idea for a thick bladed bigger knife which is going to see some abuse.
Although according to Vassili (nozh2002) his tests with the solid SRS15 Bowie did perform better then 5160.
And the SRS15 was at 63 RC.
