So are Victorinox Soldiers and the Alox "Pioneer" series 91mm closed length?

Well, everything from Victoinox tells us so -

Victorinox brochure circa ~1988

Alox94mm88.jpg

Victorinox brochure circa 1995
Soldier95.jpg

Swiss Army Brands (USA) Victorinox catalog 2003 -
Soldier03.jpg

www.Victorinox.ch page on the Soldier (in French)
or Soldier (in German)
note: European languages chosen because they use the metric system.

SwissArmy.com page on the Soldier

BUT while photographing the Soldier against some of my standard 91mm Victorinox SAKs I noticed first the main blade seemed longer - then while aligning the bodies the Soldier was actually longer.

Not by much, the Soldier measures 94mm closed vs. the standard SAKs 91mm closed -

I don't have any of the other full sized Alox "Pioneer" series models, as shown in the brochures above - to measure.

Can others who do have them, please be kind enough to measure them, and please let us know if they are 91mm or 94mm?

Thanks,

Vince, I don't own any but the soldier myself and I have noticed this as well. My Camper is definately shorter then the Soldier. (BTW, I can't wait to get my Camper from Scott either ;) )

I can say though that I beleive the Cadet is shorter then the Soldier. I have handled one in the Army/Navy store and it seemed shorter then the soldier...Although it is the same model w/ a key ring.

I think you need -
glasses.... :p

The Cadet is actually an 84mm model -
it's shorter than even the regular 91mm standard red SAKs -
so may be that's why it "seemed shorter"? :p :D

Soldier and Settler measure at 94mm here too.............

I have seen the "standard" SAKs advertised as 3 1/2" closed and the Pioneers at 3 3/4" closed.

UVT my Pioneer "Pruner" is in fact equal in length to my Soldier. As to "why they did that?". Maybe they've been running a contest all this time and the winner is the first person to notice this discrepancy in size. Maybe you will now win a lifetime supply of V'noxs. If you do how about sharing the wealth and pass a few out to your fellow BFC members? :D ;)

Thanks for that confirmation.

I wish! -
but for a lot of people ONE single SAK does last a lifetime...
so much for that grand prize, huh? :p :D

Thanks for that nice thought though :)
