SAKs are too useful

I really want a traditional folder because it is so beautiful, but my Tinker has too many useful tools for me not to carry it. On Friday, I used the flat head to dig out dirt at Habitat for Humanity. Camping this weekend at Lake Tahoe, I used the can opener for dinner and the tweezers to pull splinters. I used the blades for food prep and cutting zip ties, but a traditional slippie can handle that. Eventually I'll cave in and buy a Case, but I'm not sure how much pocket time it will get.

Why can't you carry both?;)
Yes, one could, but not for me. I've got keys, phone, money, knife #1, knife #2... I find objects in your pockets really wear and catch dirt on your pants. Also, the SAK already has a large and small blade.

Those traditionals sure are pretty, though.

I carry a SAK 84mm Tinker and a Case Large Stockman daily. One in each front pocket, wallet in rear, keys & cell on belt. No problem. Yes they do collect lint & dirt and the occasional dime, so what, blow them out as needed.

I like my traditionals as well and would surely like to carry just my Peanut, but SAK´s are indeed too damn useful not to carry.
So I carry my Alox Bantam in my right back pocket on it´s own and my Chestnut Bone Peanut in my watch pocket.
Wallet goes in right front pocket on it´s own and my Cell phone in left front pocket.
Tobacco poach with lighter in left back pocket and Alox Classic on the key ring together with a Fenix E01.

Do you guys have stuff fall out of your front pocket when you bend over to pick things up or tie your shoe? That seems to happen to me every time.

I always carry a Vic Explorer plus along with a traditional.....lately a Schrade Walden 804 whittler. The Vic goes in the right front pocket and the 804 goes in the watch pocket part of the same pocket.

I've been wanting to EDC some of my non-SAKs, but I still want the versatility of a SAK. Since I don't like the redundancy of having two different pocket knives with similar blades, when I carry a regular slippie, I downsize my SAK to a Rally (same size as the Classic but with a bottle opener and Phillips in place of the scissors).

That's what I end up doing sometimes.

I fight a battle between my love of traditional pocket knives, Case peanuts in particular, and the useful sak's. So I sometimes slip my bantam or SI in my back pocket next to my tobacco pouch where it rides very comfy. My classic is never off my keyring, so I can't leave home without it. It and my peanut takes care of most of what I need to do. But sometimes I know I'll need a little more knife, so the bantam goes along. I don't have a problem carrying both of them, it's one way to share the love!:D

Besides, the sak may be useful, but a peanut is too pretty to be left behind.

I think a lot us "clink" a lot with all our stuff and we probably are at the metal detector checks more/longer than average !o!

I like the way "dogstar" said it; "Those traditionals sure are pretty, though"

I do like redundancy so don't care/mind to have a few blades on or around me ;)

The SAK goes in the left front and by the end of the day so does change and cash. In my right front pocket sits my stockman and nothing else.

If you wear jeans remember that little pocket on the right front,we used to call a watch pocket?Good place for a small SAK.:)

I'm often stuck in the same dilemma. But I like to keep it light, so I'm not going to carry both a slipjoint and a SAK, with the possible exception of a Classic on my keyring (but, I don't always carry my keys with me either).
So usually, I choose what to carry depending on where I am going. Daytime, work, etc, it's more often a SAK. Evening, night, and so on, it's a slipjoint. But, of course, that's just my way, and I do understand u well.

I have been with out a Tinker for years w/c was my first SAK and subsequently lost it after almost 10 years of use. I recently purchased a new Small Tinker, coupled that with a TEC P-7 Suspension Clip and it's now my edc SAK. It literally is a smaller version of the regular Tinker. I'm thinking about getting another one b/c I don't know how long (Victorinox) will be making them.

dogstar, i can't agree with you more that saks are so extremely useful. fwiw, i manage to carry a alox '08 soldier in the watch/coin pocket of my jeans and a decent sized stockman traditional--a buck 371 in side of the same pocket and it works out pretty comfortable. of course, 'your milage may vary' depending on the jeans or other pants you use as watch/coin pockets can vary greatly. also, carrying a small traditional--especially a peanut or any nice pen knife along with your sak should work out pretty easy no matter what. in closing, i hope this reply and all the others here will serve ya well.

What more could you ask of a pocket knife?
