Since hunting season is in progress in most parts of the country. I got to wondering how many of you use your saks to clean game.
I once used a Vic Executive to clean a deer. Did a pretty good job but it took a while to clean it up afterward.
Anybody else used thier sak as ahunting knife?

I've used my Hunter for butchering and cleaning deer, and my Huntsman in a pinch. I normally don't like folders for hunting (too many crevices to get gunk in) but they worked perfectly.

I love my SAK (small blade) for rabbits / squirrels but use a fixed blade for deer. Too goopy way up in there for a folder ( especially one w/ a toothpick :-D ).

I don't use any of my more complex sak's for game, but I have used some of my simpler alox ones like solo and alox bantam for fishing use. They clean up pretty easy in the sink with some Dawn dish soap and an old toothbrush. The [plastic handle ones let gunk in under the scales.

A Vic paring knife does very very well on a deer. Thin blade goes through stuff very well.

I've never hunted in my life(hey, this IS the Netherlands after all:rolleyes:) but I think I would go for the Alox Solo:thumbup:

Yeah, I field dressed a deer and later skinned it out with a Classic on a bet which I won! - That cured me of using big knives! My Alox Cadet is about as big as I go now except in the kitchen.
Peace

I don't use a SAK for hunting or fishing. I never hunted after all, but for preparing fish I prefer a simple fixed blade knife. Simply because it's easier to clean.

My father and grandfather were hunters, they hunted for rabbits and birds, and used a fixed blade knife for skinning and cleaning.

I'm hoping to try out my Hunter this year on deer. In the past I've always used my purpose made Wyoming Knife. Did you use the "gutting blade"? How did it work for you? Up to now, I've used it only as rescue or strap cutting blade. It excels in that role.

I used the regular locking blade, which worked very well. My buddy, who's not very experienced with the game-cleaning process, used the gutting blade and said it worked fine. To me, the gutting blade works better than a Wyoming Knife

As others have said, the alox models are easier to clean, though a little more slippery to me. I used a alox solo on quite a few rabbits and squirrels and it worked just fine :) I've used my climber to clean quite a few fish and for making cut bait, when I left my bait knife at home by accident. I prefer a small fixed blade, but the saks take over some times :D
