SAKs with clip point blades

Yesterday I saw gruntmedik's SAK ID request, and in that thread a couple of people remarked that they'd never seen a SAK with a clip point blade. Immediately I thought of the only one I have with a clip point blade. It's a Wenger Nomad (if I've identified it correctly) that I got "used"--it looked like it was never actually used. The smaller of the two blades is a clip point, which I thought was interesting, but I figured maybe it was a Wenger thing. The only other Wenger I have is an Esquire and it never occurred to me to research Wenger blade types.

So now I'm wondering how uncommon it is to find this kind of blade on a SAK. Does anyone know of others?

Here's mine:

Wenger small blades on their 85mm knives are still clip point. The Buck Swissbuck made by Wenger also had a main clip point blade. Long ago, Victorinox small blades were clip as well.

Yes, probably they were asking about Victorinox SAK's with clip point blades. The clip point blades go back to the early 1970's and before. Once they changed over the clip point blades were never reintroduced in the Victorinox lineup. It is not that hard to find an older Victorinox with a clip point blade but usually the condition is less than desirable or the tip is bent/broken. I have a couple with the small clip point blade. They are OK but I think I prefer the spear pointed small blade actually.

Here is an example;

Clip point blades are still relatively common on Wengers, especially secondary blades on 85MM pieces and long blades on the largest pieces.

I think I prefer the spear pointed blades too. Or a wharncliffe or pruning or sheepsfoot/electrician type blade. The clip point just doesn't quite look right on a SAK.

I agree with you 100% :thumbup: I have a buck wenger swissbuck with 2 clip points and I don't like that blade shape on a sak at all

The SoftTouch 14 has a large clip point. Again, Wenger. 2009 release, if memory serves.

I've only seen clip point blades on Wenger, off the newer models, both the Evolution Soft Touch ST10 and ST17 have a main clip point blade.

Some of the old Ranger models carried a large main clip point blade, If I remember correctly they were the Everest, the Mountain Ranger and the Timberline among others.

I received a wenger backpacker today and the secondary blade is a clip. As stated I think the clip point looks wrong on a sak.
