I read recently about the poss that victorinbox was going to outsource the production of thier knives to canada, anyone else here about this?

Wouldn't it actually cost them more to outsource to Canada?

One of the reasons for Victorinox buying out Wenger was to keep those jobs in Switzerland. Why would they outsource them now?

Rumors are fun, but pretty much worthless without a source. Perhaps the outsourcing refered to non-knife products, of which they sell quite a bit now.

Canada might provide them with red Victorinox mukluks.

Or Normark might have gotten a contract for Kydex sheaths !!! :D

Wrong rumor. Supposedly, EU rules insist that a contract as large as that the Swiss Army has for Swiss Army Knives must be put up for international (WTO) bid. A question then arose that China might win such a bid, cutting Victorinox and Wenger out of the business.

Here's the previous thread, from the multitool forum: Swiss Army knife made in China?

New Yorkers are really quite provincial, in our own sophisticated way. Don't get to spend much time outside the concrete canyons, y'know.

Check out Saul Steinberg's New Yorker cover: "View of the World from 9th Avenue". (Click on the pic to enlarge it.)
