Sal,

Any more thoughts about making the deep pocket clip for the Endura/Delica 4? I'd sure be anxious to buy one for each.

Best regards,

Argyll

Hi Argyll,

We'd like to watch reaction to the new Endura4 & Delica4 before offering accessories.

The Caly3 is slated for the same deep pocket wire clip as the UKPK.

I wonder if the low ride clips sold ny www.knifekits.com would work? They should if the Endura 4 uses the standard hole patern for clips.

Thanks for the response, Sal. Bit of a catch-22 since I have a waved Endura 3 already, my only incentives for acquiring the 4's would be the deep-pocket clips.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I have D3s and just bought the D4. If low ride clips were available for the Endura 4 I would have to buy one.
There is a market for low ride clips. See the thread below-

Sal,

I seem to recall there was work being done on the low ride clip option, but there had been some snafus. Any progress?

Best regards,

Argyll

The last I heard Sal was going to bring up the subject of low riders when he was in Seki. He never said how it went. I sure hope they bring out low riders for the D4.

Pocket clips are expensive to the manufacturers. I know the end line user doesn't see that but believe me they can add up to great cost to the bottom line. Fold over clips have a certain fail rate also so I would suspect that as a result of this they would be even more expensive to manufacture than a standard style clip since a certain number of them will either break or tear when folded over or be rejected for a slight hair line that formed when they were bent.

Then there is this issue that has not been talked about that I'm aware of. Lets just pick a knife at random as an example. Say the Manix full size drilled and tapped for a pocket clip on all four corners. Now look closely at the relationship difference between the tip up mounting and the tip down on either side. You will note that there is a difference in the distance between the top of the scale from the hole position from one mode of carry vs the other.

So lets say the knife was shipped with a low rider to you that was set at the factory for tip down carry. Lets say at that setting the low rider buried the knife in your pocket and that the fold over of the pocket clip was flush with the top of the scale.

Now mount that clip for tip up and all the sudden you have a low rider that isn't optimized because it no longer buries the knife in the pocket but leaves some still sticking up out of the pocket. This is perfectly acceptable to some but defeats the purpose of the low rider for others.

If you turn this scenario around you then have the opposite situation. If say in the tip up carry mode the clip fold over was flush with the top of the scale, you will note that in the tip down carry position that same clip's fold over was overhanging off the end of the handle by quite a bit.

What this does is create limits to the uses of the low rider unless the manufacturer is willing to make seperate low riders to cover both mounting positions or sell the knives with just one mounting postion only, or specifically design each knife with mounting holes that will work equally well for tip up or down. Now as a knife maker I know this is not always going to be feesible and then you also have the issue of probably having to lose the lanyard hole on some models in order to equip the knives with low riders.

What I'm saying is that there is a lot more to think about and consider here before you can just start up production of low riders across the board for all the knives in your line up.

No update info from Sal. I think that is a bad sign. Something tells me no Spyderco low riders for the D4.

I love my spydies (the Caly 3 is nearly perfect) but I carry mostly Griptilians with the Mini Pika clips just because the clip is low-ride and is nice and small.

The Mini Pika clip makes it look like a pen or some other small object and it's completely innocuous.

I've got 10+ spydies and 9 Grips. With the exception of the Caly 3, I just can't wear the Spydercos to work clipped to my pocket. I carry them inside my pocket depending on the pants, though.

I find in the winter it doesn't matter as much carrying pocket knives that protrude from the pocket a bit more than others. My jacket will cover any exposed handle and if I need to take my jacket off and don't want to raise any eyebrows i'll discreetly unclip the knife and carry it loose for the time being.

Wearing a jacket doesn't help me at work!

I work at a software company, and in general things such as knives are not taken so well. I like to keep them well hidden but handy.

Low-ride clips, preferably light and black versions for different pants, are the perfect solution. I sanded the black paint off the clip of my gray Grip to work better on my light colored slacks.

I do have to say that the SOG Flash 2 has a nearly perfect clip (though the knife is unimpressive in every other way).

STR did make me a beautiful low-ride titanium clip for my Mini Manix. It's really beefy looking and still a bit too loud unless it blends with the the pants. The color he made is very nice with jeans but not other pants.
