My Native, that I bought less than a month ago, has gotten some up and down blade play, but some really excessive side to side play, enough to make the pivot pins loose. I can move the blade any way I want to, and I can squeeze the pivot pins area together, and it makes a sound, and is okay until I open it again. I've opened and closed this knife, but I've barely used it for any real cutting tasks. I haven't abused it either. I really like the design and the feel, please help me out. I can just take it back to Walmart tomorrow in exchange for another one, but I'm afraid this might happen again. I don't wanna do anything that would void the warranty either. The scales feel like they are going to fall off.     :( :( :(

Yeah... send it in, that's not normal.

There is some flexibility in the FRN handles that'll allow for a little movement when they're squeezed pretty hard. But there shouldn't be any movement (side to side) without pressure.

Sounds a little like the riveted end of one side of the pivot has worked lose and the pin isn't seated right. The noise you hear when you press on it could be the cap and pin joining together again.

The fact that you can't disassemble the FRN Spydercos is their one major weakness as far as I'm concerned. I think if they could be taken apart for cleaning and owner repair, Spyderco would probably see far fewer knives returned for warranty issues (or more if people don't know what they're doing).

save yourself the suffering silent. Its a defect. Go get another one. Theyre not that bad you just got a one in a million lemon!!

Id say return it to Wal-Mart in the A.M.

no worries!

We would prefer it if you sent it in to us, simply because we'd like to not only fix it, but figure out what happened and prevent it from happening again. The Native still has the same Spyderco warranty that it's always had.

Of course, we understand that taking it back to Wal-Mart might be more convenient. It's your choice really. If you send it in, please let me know and I'll watch over it. Just email me at khunter@spyderco.com.

Have a good weekend - Kristi

Kristi, you and Spyderco are absolutely THE BEST!! silenthunterstudios, Spyderco will take care of you.

the only one they had yesterday and it works perfectly! Return it and get another one. That had to be a fluke!

I took it back Friday night, and got a different one. Out of the 8 I checked, three were great, the others were loose.
