I just received my Calypso Jr. yesterday directly from Spyderco and I have some questions. The blade on my Calypso Jr. has some pitting on it. There is another post on the forums about a similar problem with a Calypso Jr.

Coincidently enough my knife has pitting in the exact same locations as the knife pictured in that thread. Is this normal, it seems to have no effect on performance. Everything else about the knife was fine it had a solid lockup with no blade play. Just wondering if it is something I should be concerned about.

Thanks,
Chris

I uploaded a couple of pictures of my Calypso Jr.

The knife overall seems fine; blade lock up is fine, knife is sharp. THe pocket clip was a bit loose but i tightened that up. This is my first spyderco just wondering if this is typical.

Thanks,
Chris

They do not appear to be in critical contact areas. The pits shown in the topmost photo are in a location that is only visible if you look down into the case with the blade open. The pits on the choil, while more "exposed" are in a non-critical area where Spyderco typically does not expend a lot of effort on smoothing and polishing. The FRN handled Calypso Jr. was intended to provides users the opportunity to own a blade of high quality steel at a reasonable price. It does a great job of that. While you might find a high end custom with metal surfaces that all exhibit total perfection even in non-visible and not normally visible areas, the price would be considerable higher.

Ditto what The Deacon said. :)

Your pics show that part of the choil and part of the tang (that’s hidden by the handle) are not polished. Those are definitely imperfections, but I personally would not be concerned to find them on a knife in that price range.
