It is called the Native.Perfect size, good steel.Wondering if the Calypso Jr.would also fit in this catagory.Someone said if a knife is razor sharp it does not have to be big? Does any one know where I can get a calpso jr. at a good price?

I thought the Wegner was the perfect knife.

The Calypso Jr. is a great knife. But the Native is the closest thing to perfect out there.

My instructor graced me with a Native for my birthday/x-mas, I started working with and decided it was the perfect knife.

Later, I had occasion to do something with my Military and I thought, no, here's the perfect knife.

Later on I was doing something else and I pulled out my Endura, danged if it wasn't perfect as well!!

Three perfect knives and only two hands!! What a dilemma. I'm really glad I haven't been able to get my hands on a Wegner or a Shabaria yet!

All you need is love... a sharp blade and a full clip

Speaking of perfection, the Lum Chinese folder has a claim there also. The Lum's blade is flat ground, VG-10 with a significant amount of belly unlike the Calypso jr. lightweight. The Chinese folder is easily one of the most versatile designs yet produced by Spyderco and its size, just slightly large than the Native, is close perfect. It is small enough not to be "threatening" and yet large enough to tackle a wide variety of chores. One more thought, in the past some posters asked for a flar ground Native; those folks should check out the Chinese Folder, its fat spearpoint blade is fairly close to the Native's profile. BTW, I still love the Native.

That Lum Chinese sure looks juicy! I'm sooo tempted to get my hands on one of those!

...and the shell-inlay G-10 Native. Pure perfection! What a knife! Sooo beautiful... I'm glad I got two of those!

The Lum Chinese is at the top of my "want list". However, I can get 2 Natives for the price of 1 Lum, a major consideration for me. I still think a flat ground Native is where it's at. Just my $.02.

I forget--is the Lum Chinese folder tip-up or tip-down carry? And if I remember correctly, the clip is nonreversible, yes?

I haven't managed to get my hands on one yet

, but the pictures show the Chinese Folder drilled for either tip-down or tip-up

. Not reversible for lefties though.

Hello EiNLaNZeR. About 10 or so years ago, Spyderco set up a collect club for customers that wanted to;

Make sure to get each model
Have an early numbered model
Have the same number on each model

The first 200 pieces of each new model are numbered and sent to these collectors first. There have been a few instances where the early collector pieces didn't go out first (glitches), but that would be an exception to the rule.

Collectors are also entitled to any variations of models that are produced.

If you contact Kelly Williams at Spyderco, she manages the collectors at this time.

There are still several numbers available and we've "collected/saved" the past 10 or so models in those numbers. Although we probably won't be holding them for much longer.
