Sal, Have You Ever Considered A Completely Stainless Military?

Sal,
I love the Military and was one of those that touted it loudly from the beginning. I also am a fan of all stainless knives. The Police's stainless variation is still a top seller after all these years. I know a lot a folks don't like stainless handles and will chime in here as to why, even if I ask them not to but PLEASE DON'T! ;)

A bunch of us folks here LOVE all stainless knives and I was thinking the Military would be a natural. That big, heavy blade deserves nice and thin yet substantial stainless handles! :) Have you ever considered it? A V10 or 30V blade would be nice. I would even snap up ATS-34, or even AUS-6A/8A! I'll bet a BUNCH of folks would!

Come on all you "closet" stainless handled lovers. Chime in here! Turn your back to the "lighter is better and stainless handles mar too easy and they also slip from your hand" complaints. A whole BUNCH of us LOVE the heft and solidity of an all stainless knife and like I said, an all-stainless Military would be a natural.

Again, THANK YOU non-stainless handle folks for not butting into this thread and explaining why I have to be nuts to like stainless handles. We all know the arguments and yet, I LIKE 'EM! ;) WHAT DO YOU THINK SAL?

Sal,
I forgot to mention I clip and tie an old GIN-1 Police to my trunks when I go kayaking or snorkeling. I know it's heavy but I like knowing where it is, (by it's weight), in case I need it. It's been a faithful piece and is still rust free and has also cleaned a lot of fish! :) I think the all stainless Military would serve me better in this use because the oversized "Spyderhole" would be much easier to deploy.

Can I toss-in a dream knife of mine too? I would LOVE to have a (fully-serrated) stainless Military, in LEFT-HAND, and with the same type lock as my Police models have (back lock, with Boye dent), and made with VG-10 steel.

Dang...THAT one would be a "keeper".:).

I'm also a fan of SS handles and would also love a Military with SS handles. I would also go as far as to ask for SS handle with Kraton inserts like in the Pro-Grip.

...Even if Spyderco would sell the stainless models with a packet of Agrip enclosed...That would be great, as Agrip really helps address the "slippery" problem quite well...ALL of my stainless Spydies have Agrip on 'em, and it works well for me.

Unless the steel were skeletonized or hollowed, I think it would be a very heavy knife to carry.

Those are my thoughts exactly. An all steel Military would end up being a really big heavy (9-12oz.) clunker that no one would want to clip on their pants.

Well, I sure would! :) One of my daily EDC's is a old large size Al Mar 3003 "Attack". Now that's heavy but I love that big brute of a knife! I just know I would snap up an all steel Military in a heartbeat!

I too like steel handles; however... A steel-handled Military would be antithetical to its design philosophy. It would move the Military's "Formula 1" concept over into the realm of "Winston Cup."

-Nothing wrong with the latter, but certainly not the same approach.

I'm thinking that a stainless Military might be just a little heavier than my stainless Police model(s), which I don't consider to be too heavy at-all.

I think the weight would surpize you. My guess would be at least 20-25% more without special mods to the Steel.

Well that Winston Cup sure is popular now! :) Thanks for the input Sal and I never seriously thought an all steel Military could be a reality. I just know as I've become older and having collected and tried a most knives in my time, I'm reverting back to all steel folders. Hell, Al Mar sold a ton of his 14 oz. Attacks like the one I carry to military personnel. Sure they're heavyweights but they stood up to massive abuse. I've tried all the lightweights and they're nice but there's just something about an all steel, substantial folder that never goes out of vogue. I'm sure you'll agree that your all stainless knives still continue to sell very well after all these years. Anyway, there's all those lightweight's available for folks that like don't like heavy knives. One last thought. If "clipping" a heavy knife is out, it could be made without a clip and carried in a sheath as I do my old Attack. Hell, I'd like it better that way! :) As thin as the Military already is, it's a natural for steel handles.

As long as a stainless Military weighs under 3 pounds, I'd buy it.:D.

Why not titanium side panels for an all metal Military ?? stainless sucks, titanium is much lighter.

I agree...make it titanium...and with a framelock, plus the S30V bladesteel. That knife would practically be indestructible!!! I would buy without hesitation...
