Sal, how about a lockback, G10, tanto?

I personally love the look of the Bob Lum, but I just don't like liner locks in general (even thought I have yet to see a bad liner lock on a spyderco.) I love my g10 police and would be most pleased with a similar type knife with a tanto blade. Hopefully I'm not alone.
Thanks

Lewis - Probably not. We're making the Lum tanto because it is Bob Lum. He created the "Tanto" design that everyone (including Cold Steel) put into production. His next design slated for production is his Chinese Folder.

Oh well, we can't have everything we want. I still like your knives, I just ordered 2 more. Thanks for the response.

Lewis - if you really want one... Tale a Cold Steel Gunsite folder - remove the thumb stud and drill a huge hole in the blade.

Just kidding Sal!

I mean, if I went around saying I was an Emperor because some
moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, people would put me away!

I would take a G10 handle flat ground Police, Starmate or Military model and have a custom maker grind a "tanto" style tip.

Lewis-
Spyderco and Timberline got together and came up with a "Special Service Knife". It features a tanto style blade shape....all stainless.....reversible clip......diamond shaped hole in handle... plain or 50/50 edge....AUS 8......and 3 3/4" blade length.

I had forgotten about the Timberline. the Knifecenter says it was designed by Spyderco and it is built like the police. I have not handled one, but they do look pretty cool.

Hmm, I remember seeing these pics when it came out, but it isn't quite what I would have in mind for a Spydie Tanto -- what about doing a version of the Lum Tanto with a 5/32" stock blade of 440V, and G10 scales, or even better, bead blasted canvas Micarta (over dual steel liners) with a bit of a palm swell (similar properties of texture and warmth to G10, and very pretty patterns of black and green swirls: take a look at Busse's handles for the Steel Heart, Battle Mistress, etc.). I was originaly thinking linerlock or Rolling Lock, but a lockback could be good too.

Yes, the americanized tanto is arguably a less useful blade shape, but why let that be an excuse not to dominate the category now that Spyderco has elected to step in to the ring. Build something that can outclass, out-tough, and out-work the offerings from Benchmade, Cold Steel, et.al., rather than just building something that's viewed as more of a collector's piece...
