Has anyone else noticed a tendency in Blade to, at best, give Spyderco short shrift? Whenever I read an article about significant knives or important developments in the knife business in the last 50 years or whatever, Sal and Spyderco seem to be ignored by the magazine. The latest issue has an article on Company/custom-maker co-operative knives, of which I believe Spyderco and Bob Terzuola to be the pioneers with the C15, and they discuss a number by competitive makers, but none by Spyderco. This seems to me to be grossly improper and unrealistic.

and yet that special Q knife with Blade written in the handle was made for the people at Blade Magazine...

The publisher of "Blade" does have a rather strange way of selecting
subject material. I find that the magazine is 9 /10's advertisments anymore
so the my subscription will not be renewed.

It's almost as if the folk's writing the articles are not "knife people" .
Strange indeed.

Blade comes to you by the same publishing company that produced Levines 5th Edition that wasn't written by Levine.....:(

The only reason I buy it is for the Fowler's Knife Talk section.

What is so strange about it? If you buy a significant amount of advertisement, they will put you down for an article and a positive review.

I never get tired of hearing one of my friends ask me if I've heard about this "new knife" he saw in BLADE..except that it's been already been tested, reviewed, and rehashed many times over here on the forums. They're only like 8 months behind what's happening outside of their little world. So I don't buy it- most of what's in there is old news to me by the time it comes out.

Hey maybe next Christmas, BLADE will run an article reviewing Spyderco's "newest release" the Lum Chinese folder....;)

Greg hit the nail on the head. Except for Ed Fowler's column, it's a piece of trash since Krause took over IMO. They also ruined the knives annuals and the Levine's books by managing to get rid of the original authors. I've said it before and I'll say it again, talk with your cash. The only problem is that Krause probably doesn't care whether they drop the title or not from their extensive list of magazines and books. Look at what they did to Fighting Knives magazine. Stick with KI and TK, they may not be perfect but at least they're put out by knife people.

I'm sorry, but I buy them all. At least most of the articles in BLADE have grammar and spelling that seem to indicate they have a real proofreader. I mean, I like TK and KI just as much, and the articles probably even more, but come on, how hard is it to get a decent proofreader? It's not like I expect the actual writers to do it themselves. I mean, their forte is knives. Heck, half the engineers that I work with can't spell worth a darn. But these are magazines, meant to be read; it seems to reflect poorly on the knife community as a whole when a publisher can't seem to put together a magazine on knives that it not full of errors that could easily be caught.

OK, I know I'm gonna catch hell for this, but someone had to say it. :o

C'mon, patience please. Just because I've been around forever, doesn't mean that I need to be in all of the articles. There are a lot of good makers out there and they all need some attention.

Also try to keep in mind that "new" is always going top get top billing in magazines.

and another thing, most of you are "hipper" to knives than the average knife person or you wouldn't be spending your time here. Sooooo...you have to be aware of your greater awareness.

...though I've been using Spyderco Endura's daily for nearly 8 years now, I've only been "hipper" for about two years now... ;)

over 100 nicer knives in the collection, including 50+ Randall's, and yet my daily carry/user knife is a Spyderco Endura...bought another one on Wednesday...

New is new, new sells magazines, and yes, the other makers need their moment in the sun...but that doesn't change a thing...Spyderco's Rock, and have made a very significant impact on the way knives are used and viewed...

That alone should merit a little more ink I'd think...

(Gotta go, before I get carried away with my poetic license and 'busta rhyme')... :D
