I looked at the cover of my new Spydie catlogue and noted that the back ground appears to be a green tinged brain section. Looked at some old psy texts, and that is exactly what it looks like.

Probably a coral, what with the theme of the other photos.

just thought I would ask.

Hello All,

Actually the theme of the small catalog is "rocks, crystals and minerals". The cover is a cross section of malachite.

Spyderco's next small catalog comes out this January. We're discussing back ground ideas now. Help us out! Give us your opinions about what would look eyecatching without taking away from the knives?

Thanks,
Joyce

What about handwoven fabrics? Lots of color and texture that's manageable for a photo shoot and certainly contrasts nicely with blade steel, but stays somewhat muted and neutral.

Woods... different wood types and wood environments (natural and man-made) to emphasize an aspect of knife use.

How about extreme closeups of interesting patterned surfaces on insects? Like the scales on a moth's wings, the compound eyes of a dragonfly, the pebbled, multicolored outer wings of a beetle, etc. Make the pictures close enough that folks don't recognize what it is and say "ew, a bug!" but far enough that its true nature can be apprecaited once revealed. It's sorta loosely in keeping with Spyderco's arachnid theme... sorta.

How about an extreme look (200x magnification) of one of the metals used in your blades, such as 440V. Very cool backround shot.

What about a SEM picture of the surface of one of your blades.

I agree with Corduroy. Insect close ups are the way to go. There are few things in nature as strikingly beautiful as a close up of moth and butterfly wings. The colors and patterning are astounding. The outer wings on some beetles' are awesomely iridescent. The coloring and patterns on some caterpillars are intensely bright. There are also some very colorful arachnids to be found out there. I'm trying to think of more examples but there are sooo many, this is definitely an avenue worth looking into.

How about a field of flowers in the distance, with a Spyderco knife or two on top of them. I bet that would look cool. There has to be a field of flowers in the mountains some where around the Spyderco office.

Flowers would be nice, but how about Mountains from a distance? This would give a grandiose and majestic flavor to the knives presented. It would make them seem as awesome as they really are!

Why not just set them on your large sharpening stones> I know not as cool as the bug thing, but you want the knives to be the focus right.
