dear Mr. Glessner
I'm edc-ing a native for about a year. It's gone through a lot of trouble. I don't want mannequin/showbox knives . For example they must cut plastic wrap foil. heavy cartboard boxes thin copper wire, spanner bands nylon/cotton type , Nylon/prophyleen and hemp cord Aluminiumcoated plastic foil All kind of plastic coatings, wraps. My native is a 3 plain edge. i prefer plain edge for easy resharpning. Due to excessive use it got some bladeplay but still nothing to worry about. I love VG 10 despite some members nagging on this board. I think for heavy duty use it's better then s30v due to it's has in my humble oppinion a better bite and better corrossion resistence . Also resharpning is easier. I love my native 3 a lot. Compared to my boker and vixtorinox and opinel and other folders it is the best performer:) .I would like an upgrade with g10 and double steel liners for heavy use so the blade play won't accure within a year . i think the native is an all time classic that needs an upgrade to make it more legend as it already is.
I want to personally thank you for the great knives at decent prices that you suplie to us.
i think the upgrade and costprice will not effect the benefit
I will order a caly 3 for comparing. when the rush is over probably from ngk they send to europe at descent prize . In europe spyderco prices are steep.

Greetings from a spydie fan from the netherlands:rolleyes:

The Caly 3 may very well fill the bill for you. It's blade is only a hair shorter than the Native III and it is not significantly taller, open or closed. Its operation is very smooth and the lockup is rock solid, at least on the two I have had my hands on.

If you absolutely must have a G-10 Native III, there is a gentleman on this forum (STR) who I am sure could make one for you. I know he has made at least one titanium lined C41 Native. He does excellent work and his prices are quite reasonable considering the quality of both the materials he uses and his workmanship.

I too think the Native III is a prime candidate for a really cool sprint run. G10 is a great idea but only if the handle can keep the same ergos. That is one of the NIII's best feaures, IMO. Full liners would be nice. I could even see it as a compression lock. How about M4??

Oops i didn't think of the material g10 and if it can be shaped in the same way as de frn scales of my native 3.Frn can be molded and g10 probably not.
Good point there Ken:confused: i would shure like the same ergo's ..

I saw nice work from SRT but with mircata scales. How does this material compares in strenght to G10? Further i would like titanium scales but this would make the handle less grippy.... And for EDC i need a good grip.

Well i think first I'll have to order a Caly 3 which is nr 1 at my wanted- list.

:jerkit: thanx for the input guys.

Just wanted to chime in and let you know that I contacted STR to do this very thing and he told me that he doesn't mess with G-10 anymore. The processing of the material apparently is very messy and there are some health concerns with breathing in the dust.

Good to know, will remember that for future reference. Don't really like G-10 myself, so it's not a major issue for me personally.

From a pure strength perspective, G-10 is probably at least twice as strong. For use as the handle on a 3" bladed folding knife either one is overkill, even more so when applied as scales over steel or titanium liners.

For what it's worth, I find canvas micarta with a 200 grit finish to be very grippy. Won't win any beauty contests that way, but then again neither will Spyderco style G-10. The really nice thing about the canvas micarta is that it feels relatively smooth when dry, but gets almost "sticky" when wet. I use the Stretch that STR customized for me with brown canvas micarta scales over ti liners in the kitchen daily, and have had no slippage even when my hand was coated with olive oil or bacon fat.
