Sal, I'm keen to get the SPOT with the new stronger sheath.

when is the ETA? gotta combine orders to save on shipping costs.

Anor question - which Spydie is the best slicer in the Spyderco family bar none? Is it Delica VG10, Lum Chinese VG10 or Military S30V/CPM 440V or Calypso Jr?

Thanks.

We fnally solved the sheath problem. Most challenging for this knife design. We set sheath strength at 10 lbs (adjustable sheath tension).

Sheaths are in production as we "speak" and we should finally be shipping in the next 2 weeks. Sorry for the delays.

As far as slicing goes:

For steel, the S30V has the "edge" in retension and probably in the sharpness category as well. The flat wide grind of the Military "slices" exceptionally well.

The Fixed blade Temperance (VG-10) is also a wide flat grind (wider than the Military) and exhibits exceptioal slicing as well and VG-10 will get very very sharp.

The wide flat grind provides very good geometry as a slicer.

However, all of our models are made as users and all slice very well. the differences between them might be hard to see or may require a fair amount of experience to tell the difference.

Will the new sheaths be sold seperately for those of us who would like to upgrade?

There is a modification to the SPOT required. I imagine we'll come up with a way, but you'll have to send it in to us.

[mad scientist voice] Excellent . . . [/mad scientist voice] :)

Thanks for the info. I'm sure I speak for others around here when I say that pictures and identification of any improvements would be greatly appreciated.

How can I tell the new spot from the old spot, will there be any identifying features or blade marking of any sort?

Thanks.

Hi Sal,

Have you come up with a way for retrofitting old-style SPOTs for improved sheath retention...I may be coming into possession of one soon.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe. Yes we have, but it will require a different sheath. You'll have to send it in for the mod if you choose
