But you probably knew that. Salem, of Promethean Knives, works out of the town of Tonasket, Washington, which is about 60 miles from me. He is a pro who mostly forges, while I am a hobbyist stock removal guy. I talked Salem into coming to my shop for some grinding lessons. He spent about 4 hours coaching and demonstrating grinding techniques, and offering many other helpful tips.

Thank you Salem for your generousity in sharing your knowledge!

The attached picture is of Salem and his beautiful wife Heather enjoying a glass of wine after our time in the shop.

After 4+ hours of teaching someone to grind, he's gonna need more than a glass of wine.

Yeah, come'on out to Virginia, Salem. Love to get that swoopy plunge down. seriously, Salem actually took the time to do hand drawn pictures and post them with all the details on how to do a swoop, or curved plunge, so it doesn't surprise me he'd spend that time showing you grinding tips. Does a great WIP, as well. Good going, guys. Both of ya!

Sounds like a great day! I know there are lots of little tricks I could pick up from Salem too! He's always working to help others with their craft.
Glad you guys had a good time.

It was a great day. Phil's a standup guy too, he and his lovely wife Mary actually treated us to a nice dinner, as well. Phil lives in a beatiful spot, and has a good little shop, too. I enjoyed looking at his knives, and talking shop.

Oh, and I got a chunk of stabilized lignum vitae from him, too. I'll post pics of that on something, soon.

I'm almost done with my power hammer rebuild. I've been greasing and oiling the thing, and have the belts on order. Maybe by the end of the week I'll test run it. I'd dig having a hammer-in for sure, if y'all can make it up my road...

Wish I could make it over to your shop, Patrice. Don't know if I could give you any lessons, though!
