C'mon guys. I know you all have your favorite Spydie...mine is the Native.

Well, guess what. So is Sal's! I'm not speaking for him, of course, but I'm convinced that he is a closet Spydie Native lover, so much so that I'm certain it's his favorite.

You want proof? Ok, here it comes!:

1)check the 204 Sharpmaker video...yup, the Spydie knife that Sal holds to show what a hollow ground is...a Native!

2) In Spydie catalog, the knife picked to show how to do one-hand opening and closing...a Native!

3) Also in Spydie catalog...when knives are about to be presented, in the page that reads "then we made sharp things" it's a Native in the background!(Ok that argument's weak b/c other "background" knives are featured elsewhere, but I think the Native prevails here.

4) The Spydie picked to become a Bladeforums knife? That's right! The Native! And with a Blue G-10 handle, no less!

5) The only "inexpensive" knife to feature CPM440V? The Native! Sal loved it so much that he decided to change the model to a premium quality metal. Maybe it was also priced so that most people could afford to get the Native, and who knows...maybe Sal wanted to spread them as much as he could!

6) Check out the handle. That's right, it's the Spydie web-pattern! I believe this was an inspired choice which only the Native sports. If you look at the handle, it looks like the Spider in the Spydie logo is at the center of the web. It looks as if this knife was especially chosen for this pattern because it is favored by Sal.

7) The knife first featured in the new Spyderco website as the pick for the Spyderco Factory Outlet is...you guessed it, the Native!

8) The knife picked for a limited "sprint" run with G-10 handle and shell-inlays is the Native! Even if Sal said that Jeff, the General Manager, asked for this knife, I'm sure he didn't object and went with the project because it's his favorite knife! He just didn't say so b/c he doesn't want to admit that it's his favorite knife!

C'mon Sal, admit it! It's obvious you're a closet Native lover! As Paul Work, another Spydie Native Knife Knut, and me, would say...if you could only have one Spydie knife, it would be the Native! Maybe Sal also agrees. :P

Comments are welcome...especially from Sal. You've been discovered, Sal, and can no longer hide your favorite Spydie preference!

HERMES: "The Applegate Fairbarn is not bad...but for both offense and defense, the Randall 14 is good."
HERMES: (Admiring the Joe Kious Sub-hilt dagger) "I'll take the Joe Kious for a friend."
KNIFE-SELLER: "Excellent choice."

Very observant. It does make one wonder.

I'll bet asking Sal to pick out his favorite Spydie would be like asking him to pick out his favorite child.

Seems like you spent a lot of time on this Flood. I wonder what ideas you have on the "White" album, or JFK assassination>

Ummmm... It takes a native lover to spot a closet native lover...

What do you like about the Native? Looks a little Small & Busy to me. Reminds me a little of the & Michael Walker Lightweight.

Hi Flood. Had to think about that for a while.

The Native design was the result of a design assignment. There were a set of parameters, one of which would be to appeal to a large number of knife users. As opposed to a design like the Military, which was more specific in the problems it had to solve.

In a design like the Native, much attention is paid to size and appearance in addition to performance and ergonomics. Sometimes you feel like a hump, sometimes you don't. The Native is "humpless". The expansion for grip and contol was put in the large choil.

We worked on the design for quite a while.

The lock was re engineered because the first run wouldn't pass lock strength requirements. It took much longer than planned to finally get into production.

Flood is to be congratulated. Through his close scholarship he has come to a depth of understanding of Sal that even Sal lacks. And this is the place to publish it. Flood, you are a true Knife Knut.

Thanks, Mochiman1. I must say, however, that it is a dubious honor...although I have acquired much knowledge about knives and Spydies in particular, I have also acquired an uncontrollable urge to buy more Spydies! I am starting to believe that Sal has a deep conspiracy against my financial solvency. I mean, of ALL the knives that could have been picked to do a limited edition run with shell inlays, did it HAVE to be the Native? Doesn't he realize that I MUST have EVERY different version of the Native that he puts out? Sal, stop this madness! Erm, ahem, in fact, don't, since I must have that knife
