hey guys. been lookin at the salsa ti. whats your opinions on it? does it fit in the hand comfortably? ive herd they develop plade play, is that true?

It's very comfortable.

The two I owned both developed significant side to side AND vertical play that could not be fixed. It's a shame, 'cause the knife felt soooo good. There are probablly some around , but I wouldn't pay more then $35 for one.

I own a salsa aluminum, I got it for $45. There is some play, it is a small amount. The knife is comfortable and people friendly. It is a good knife. The play doesn't bother me too much. I don't think it is going to be my EDC after this year.

Another small detail about the salsa is the blade profile, it is slightly upswept. For opening packages and certain cuts I prefer more of a drop.

I'll switch to the mini-manix unless spyderco comes out with another great one.

Final analysis: I would say if you have money and want to develop a few knives to rotate; the Salsa being one of them I say, yes.

On the otherhand, If you are like me and money is an issue, spend it on a better knife.

I wonder if the Poliwog might be a reasonable alternative to the Salsa Ti? I haven't handled the Salsa yet, but the Poli's ergonomics feel pretty good to me. The only real downside to the Poli in my mind is that it's fairly heavy.

I had one, blade play and no tip of any sort come to mind as well. Too wide in the corner of a pocket too. Can't wait to see the new one though.

I heard it will be awhile that a redesigned Salsa will be made. What I know is that there will not be a titanium version. The titanium is a frame-lock version of the compression lock and the aluminum is a liner version. I think aluminum version is made in Taiwan. The titanium version I believe in U.S. or Japan.
Correct my facts guys.
Do both of these versions have problems with blade play?

I have bothe the aluminum and titanium. The aluminum has no play and the titanium has almost neglible play. Took it apart and bent the lock a little more, and now has no play. I think the remedy for vert plays on the complock is just to tighten the lock a little bit! Also did it with my li'l temp and worked. I think the ti salsa is worth the work.

I rebent the lock on both of mine too, it worked for a while, but kept needing bent further. Since they're docisontinued they can't be replaced if there's a problem, something you might want to consider.
