I am planning on purchasing a green salsa, I have a few questions first,

Where is it made?

Is it a good representation of spyderco's quality? I've never handled a spydie before:o

Would you consider it to be good for a small edc?

Overall I love the knife just a few questions first:D

I have 2 of them... my green collectors #135V is with Eric "normark" right now, and the tan is in my pocket...

I'd call it "small" compared to my main carry... but some people find it large, due to the belly.

personally, I love it.

made in taiwan, it is still a great rep for spyderco quality.

I have a blue Salsa it is made in Taiwan.
I'm not sure if they are all made there.

I have only had about 8 differant Spydies, but I would say yes the Salsa is a good representation of Spyderco' quality.
The Salsa is very well made.

I would not consider it to be a small edc type of knife as I think of a small edc more the size of the Navigator or the Meerkat.
The Salsa is larger then the Navigator and the Meerkat, but it's still a nice size for a edc.

The Salsa fits my hand good and I really like the color of the blue one I got.

I hope this helps :)

Will'em,

I have a couple of Salsa's and I would say that they are
a very good representation of Spyderco's quality.
They are made in Tiwan. IIRC Sal said that he looked for
quality in the manufacturing process, not where it was made.

The Salsa is on my short list for EDC.

I have a titanium Salsa that I had anodized blue. :)

The Salsa has a relatively short blade (2.4"), which means it is legal just about anywhere you can carry a knife. Aside from blade length, it isn't really a "small" knife. The grip fills a normal hand quite comfortably, which allows you to do things with it that you wouldn't consider doing with any other blade that length.

I got my Salsa to use as an EDC in areas where my usual 5-1/2" and 4" folders are not legal. It also makes a nifty backup knife.

Basically small blade that feels large, and it's very well made for the regular AUS 8 models when I got the passaround.
I'll be getting the blue one in.

Just checked out a Blue Salse SE today, I'd like a longer or pointier blade. The finger groves were bigger than I thought, the Cobra Hood felt nice but only open halfway when I drew from the pocket. The lock and liners feel thinner than the Gunting in my hand. I don't know if I'd get it over another Delica or Chinook, but I'd like to play with the Ti-Salsa.

Ok then I plan on getting one:D is the ti salsa also made in Taiwan? I will probably get the green though:D Thank you for all of your help and quick responses :D

but only open halfway when I drew from the pocket.

Huh? Are you saying you are trying to use the Cobra hood like an Emerson Wave? So that it opens as you pull it from the pocket?

It is possible, if not easy, to use the Cobra Hood to open on the draw. A thumbstud can be used the same way on knives that have them. However, neither device is designed for that purpose and neither is really all that reliable in that role.

bquinlan,
That's looks like a nice job on the anodizing. Is it expensive, are other colors available and where did you get it done? I carry my Ti as an EDC for my work and having another color would be very unique.

The work was done by Bandit Customized Production Knives. I think it cost just over $30. My understanding is that titanium can be anodized in blue and gold fairly easily. Purple and green are sometimes possible.

I definitely recommend Bandit's work. I love the way my Salsa came out!

This is done by a chemical/electrical process where the amount of current allows the spectacular hues in color change.
IMO 30.00 bucks is dirt cheap for that, i've looked into buying the equipment myself later on. Ron

Yes, it is but don’t worry. It is made very decently and represents SPYDERCO common quality by all means! I could mention a couple of American made knives what display worse quality and consistence...
Here is mine, I like it in its original color.

Very nice performer, cuts everything like crazy! Comfortable and secure to handle and still makes very calm, classy and non-people-scaring knife for daily carry.

CobraHood provides additional support in thumb placement area and great opening option. Now the Fellow should be not only drunk, silly or drugged but all at once to miss the opening device :D

I would dare to say it is even some kind of overkill over SpyderHole because sometimes it works too effectively opening the knife at the draw.

However I suppose that some people could like this option ;)
