Got my Salt 1 w/Spyderedge today.

I hesitate to make too many comments after the lesson I learned by speaking in haste about the Manix but I must say I'm seriously and pleasantly impressed with the sharpness of Salt 1 knife out of the box. If H1 can be made to be this sharp and cut this well there should be no worries about bringing it back to this level or somewhat close later. We'll see how well it holds that edge over time but I bought the serrated one because of the differential hardness of the blade from being work hardened during the serration grinds as Sal pointed out.

I have been working in the yard everyday this week and it has been some back breaking work making new raised flower beds and getting my garden going. So I'm looking forward to having a knife on me that is immune to the effects of sweat and salt.

I was a bit worried about the over sized hole on the Salt 1 but turns out that I like it more. I find the Calypso Jr. almost frustrating to open now after just using this Salt for a couple of hours. For sure something I am going to get used to fast.

I am not too hip on the tip difference vs the Calypso or the Delica. I may reprofile that later to a better 'splinter picker point' but I'm almost afraid that too will work harden it further to make it brittle.

Any thoughts on that Sal? Do you think it is possible to reprofile the H1 point without significant change in the hardness of the tip?

Hi STR, if you re-profile using a knife grinder, I would suggest keeping it cool by dipping in cold water every few seconds while grinding.

Thanks. I had planned to do that as usual if I go to do something like this, but wasn't sure if this steel reacted differently or was more sensitive to the heat for some reason.
