Salt 1 vs. Pacific Salt?

I live on the Southern humid coast and am a big fisherman. i crab, shrimp and so whatever else involves the water as well. Being that I literally live on the water I have rusted many cheap knives in the past. The Salt series really appeals to me. I am not sure which of the 2 named models I want. The only difference I can see is that the Salt 1 is smaller.
Also, how durable/sturdy is the FRN handle. Believe it or not I do not think I have ever had a FRN handle. Just seems cheap to me but I have no personal experience.

Either would serve you well. They are both great knives. You just have to decide which size you want. The Salt 1 has an approx. 3 1/16" blade and the Pacific Salt has an approx. 3 13/16" blade. They are comparable to the Delica and Endura respectively. I really like the FRN handle. It is an extremely durable handle material. I think it is more durable than G10, but that's just my opinion.

This is the only picture I have with both of them together.

I EDC the Salt 1 just because I like not having to worry about rust, though I'm way over here in the NW where it rains all the time. FRN is plenty durable, so long as you're not expecting to have an effective hammer, or some such. I love all the 'Salts', it's just a matter of how big you want to go, I think Spyderco dreamed these up for guys like you. The Aqua Salt is a good one also, if you felt a need for even more blade, and the SE Aqua Salt is a-mazing.

Nice picture cgm good size comparison!

I just ordered a Salt 1 looking forward to it!
I do some local scuba diving and a rust proof knife would be nice to carry on shore or on the boat.

I have both but I carry my serrated Pacific Salt far more. I live at the sea and carry mine while I train at gym.....never a blemish.

Unless you have legal concerns my opinion is go with the larger PS. It is just a little more flexible...

Whichever one you choose you will not be disappointed....

I just purchased the Pacific in bright yellow because I found the salt, too small for my liking.Plus it's color makes it easy to find. The lockup on mine was rock solid unlike my FRN Endura 4.The jimping on the blade is nice and sharp providing traction like all spydercos do.

FRN is a widely underrated handle material. If you can break it with regluar use, you may want to consider one of Spyderco's many H1 fixed blades.

Though if you do break an FRN handle, Sal will probably come to your house, make you waffles and fix your knife for free.

I've carried a Salt 1 SE daily for two years now. April - December work as landscaper. Jan-March is snow removal. I use my Salt 1 hard.
Remove weeds, cut small branches, cut all types of bags, cut bailing twine, cut sod, cut bags of road salt.
Don't worry about the FRN handle it will out live you.
