Salt DragonFly 2 With VG-10 Blade Steel

I received this today and this is how it came from Spyderco according to the seller it got it from

Has anyone else ever seen any salts with VG-10 that weren't swapped out ???

Ive owned 3 Salts. All were H1.

To the best of my knowledge, all the Salt models use H-1. Best case, I'd say someone did a blade swap. Worst case, it could be a fake.

Well its not a salt with a VG-10 blade.

It's possible Spyderco may have mistakenly used the wrong blade or someone switched it out. You will probably never know. I'd be pretty pissed if I were you.

I bet someone has swapped the blade out. Notice that the torx heads aren't on the same side of the knife. Though maybe Spyderco makes them that way.

If you paid somewhere in the $50 range or so, I think you are fine. You can either use your new VG-10 Dragonfly 2 with yellow handle, or sell it. Regular and H1 Dragonflies go for the same price on a large vendor site.

I am very happy with the knife, I bought the knife because it has a VG-10 blade in it, I knew all this before I bought it

It's for sure not a fake, the fellow I got it from received it as you see it

Ya so either it got out of Spyderco that way which I could believe that could happen or someone in the being did a blade swap

I like VG-10 over H1 any ways so I'm a happy camper

It could also be a true H1 blade just stamped incorrectly. VG-10 has this sheen to it that almost makes it look like a fake/poor chrome job. No other steel I have looks like VG-10. Your pictures don't look like VG-10, although seeing it in person with an H1 and a VG-10 blade would probably be necessary to tell for sure. You could always leave it in a salt water solution and see what happens

You have described it perfectly with the sheen like poor chrome has, when I wipe the blade down and turn it in the light it looks just like you stated, I have 2 others in VG-10 that look exactly the same, that's why I'm convinced it is really VG-10, I think it's really cool having the yellow scales with out having to have the H1 blade, that's really the hole reason I bought it.

David, these are the two pics I was referring too.

I guess it doesn't matter as long as the knife is real, which it probably is, and the op is happy. And I think he is. Those yellow scales are pretty.

Good, at least you can be sure. I prefer a PE to be VG-10 and a SE to be H1, so that would be a good combo IMO. VG-10 is a great steel

What does the included paperwork say?

It's a full flat grind, so it almost has to be VG-10. If it had a hollow grind and was marked VG-10 I'd chalk it up to a mismark.

The torx heads are on the correct side of the knife, they match my other 2 DragonFly's exactly……..

Please understand that I'm not saying yours is fake, however there was a guy booted off ebay recently that was selling fake spins and yellow DF's with VG-10 markings. All of his auction history has since been purged from the site. I don't recall his name but he was from Israel and I assume he sourced from aliexpress.

I bought this one from a fellow in Oregon, I am 100 % sure it's not a fake, I have many more to compare it to……

It either got out of Seki-City that way or someone blade swapped it, either way I new what I was buying and I would do t again, I Love It

I like the yellow a lot, but I don't care for the H1 blade, maybe it's the writing on the blade I don't like?

It came in a DragonFly2 box with a yellow looking label that say's DragonFly2 Salt Serrated

And for an even better laugh the Edge-U-Cation paper say's it's a "Hot Pink" version

Cool family photos and a great catch. The H1 DF never really fit my needs although I really like my other DF's and various H1's. I also think the DF looks best in yellow.
