Salt I is great! H1 steel lives up to claims

I bought a Salt I because I wanted a non-black Delica. I wish it had a VG10 blade, but I got it anyway because I am SO tired of black handles.

The good news is that the H1 steel really does stay sharp. I haven't given it a long term test, but immediately up receiving the knife I took a bunch of paper padding from the shipping box (basically newpaper), wadded it up like heads of lettuce, and sliced away. I also chopped up some junk mail envelopes as I often do. The blade was still very sharp and shaved hair easily enough. Anything less than good steel would have had noticable dulling after cutting that much paper.

I later used the knife for regular small daily chores and have not noticed an abnormal loss of sharpness. Again, I haven't done a thorough and scientific test against other steels, but it definitely works very well.

I also like the larger thumb hole and the slightly foot-like tip. I like less narrow tips anyway.

Anyway, I like the knife and if anyone else wants a non-black Spyderco this knife is definitely not just for marine use. My first Delica was my main carry for a long time, until I got bored with it and wanted something different, so this nice new model will probably see a lot of use.

I'm glad to hear this because I have been reading about the S30V and rust. I work outside a great deal in the summer and get all sweaty and the last thing I want is to see rusting or pitting starting in on one of my high dollar knives. So I had intended to carry the Salt 1 since it was on the same lines as the Delica I had carried for so long anyway.

I got notification that my new Salt1 had shipped out yesterday so I should have it next week. It will be nice to know I have a maintainance free knife in my pocket that doesn't need special treatment this summer. I'm even more thrilled now knowing I won't be sacrificing much in the way of edge holding. Thanks.

If you are going to put it to hard work, can you let us know how it holds up? I give my knives a fair test at work, but I never use them for anything too intense, just cutting paper/tape.
