Salt I or Delica

Having lost my current Delica I am wondering about getting another one or a Salt I since the blade is similar in size. I have an Endura and a Tenacious but they are a bit large in the pocket for daily use and I don't have a need for such a large blade. I have a Dragonfly Salt and find the handle just a bit small.

I am leaning to the Salt I on the odd chance my Delica will resurface. And I know I will eventually get both....

I just hate making decisions at times.

I am not a huge FRN fan, but the Persistance may fit the bill.

Just realized this was between two knives. Feel free to ignore my lack of reading skills

I looked at the Persistance too. Actually I already have about eight or ten Spyderco's, more if you count the ones I lost. I like the blade shape on the Salt I and the Delica over the Persistance shape. Too many flavors to choose from....

My only gripe with the Salt 1 is that when I put it in my pocket, the jimping on the thumb ramp scrapes against the inside of my right pocket. They seem to cut the jimping slightly sharper than the Delica and because of the larger opening hole the blade sticks up a little bit higher as well. This is small but it's something I've noticed on the seldom occasions I've carried mine.

The Salt 1 is very slim and light and feels good in hand. I also like the Ti pocket clip. VG-10 will hold an edge a bit better. These are just some considerations I thought I'd bring up. Good luck with whatever you choose. I hope you find your Delica either way.

Delica's rock! You can go a little bigger and get a caly or stretch? Otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to get another delica. To play devil's advocate though there are just so many awesome knives in that size range. The kershae skyline and benchmade mini presidio co.e to mind. I have edc'd the last two and the delica and each one comes in dead even for likeability. The 527 ultra was the best slicer although I didnt have a ffg delica to compare it to.

I retired my first Delica, to replace that I got one FFG, then I misplaced that one (I know it's in the house) but I got my 3rd in orange, also FFG. The delica is the best EDC IMHO. I can pull it out in front of most anyone and they don't freak out.

Hi pellidon, you should get a serrated edge salt 1. I was never a fan of serrated blades until I got my pacific salt, but holy cow, what an awesome knife! Everyone should own at least one se knife and the h1 salts are the perfect platform. Give it a shot. You may end up loving it like me.

You should get the salt1 because everyone needs a blade for going to beach!!

I myself doesnt have a salt1 but I have the dragonfly in h1 and fully serrated for sea activities.

I have an antique G2 Delica fully serrated that I carried for ages. I'm not a big fan.

Fair enough. In that case if I was buying a plain edged knife and wasn't planning to be in the salt water all the time I would choose a vg10 delica over the h1 salt. I gave the dragonfly salt in pe and the edge retention is pretty poor compared to other steels. I love the knife anyway but only because I have it out in the salt water daily. Otherwise I would be happier with vg10.

I have been carrying a Salt 1. I like being able to throw it in the dishwasher after cutting heaven knows what during the day. I don't run a drying cycle though.

Salt 1 plain edge is my favorite and most used Spydie. Great knife that slices well and has a nice, strong blade and tip.

Salt 1. I carried one for a couple years before I gifted it and got a Black Pacific Salt, which I have been carrying everyday for about 3 or so years. Mine were PE, since I have trouble sharpening serrations. The Salt 1 takes a beating and asks for more and is easy to sharpen. Personally, I would take it over a Delica any day. I have had a fistful of Delicas, also. Consider the Pacific too, the added blade length is really useful, and as far as girth and pocket space, I think it is well worth it. No matter what you choose, you can't go wrong. Happy hunting!

I carry the Saver Salt (for the sheepfoot) every day at work and a very well used D4 when I'm off. FWIW, the fully serrated H1 steel seems to require touch up sharpening fairly often considering the minimal use it sees and the FRN handle has cracked- not structurally but the little ridge which helps secure the clip from rotating.

I continue to carry the saver salt and find it perfect for my application as it occasionally requires decontaminating and I enjoy the lack of maintanence required but for general EDC it would never replace my D4 (or Native for that matter).
