i finally got this knife yesterday , and when i brought it home i noticed it has a weld in the opening hole? what is this all about? it wont make the knife rust will it?
i would like a response from sal glesser on this issue.

ok . i`ll try again . inside the spyderhole , the hole in the blade you use to open the knife , is a small weld . i used to be a panel beater and know what a weld looks like . i also know that when you weld something , if you don`t sand it back to being flat and paint it or coat it with something to make it rustproof , it will rust , depending on which material you used to weld it. the weld is on the inside edge of the spyderhole , closest to the blade.

Why weld inside a hole? It sounds like an aberration in the steel.

It's a little "nubbin" on the inside of the SpyderHole, right?

i believe that's a laser cutter mark, when the CNC machine cuts the hole in the blade, it leaves a little "flashing" behind, my Pacific has it, as does my Atlantic, Tasman and Salt 1

i performed a corrosion test on my Pacific, and it was fine, no corrosion, i'm currently running a corrosion test on my Salt 1, no corrosion as of yet

it's nothing to worry about, it won't corrode

Both my Salts have that little mark inside the hole - it hasn't been a problem.

The H1 knives simply can't rust Sirgalant - so that won't be a problem.

A perfect sandgropers knife.........

yeah i thought that was what it might have been. thanks guys . its just that it looked like a weld.

Same with my Pacific Salt. I haven't noticed any problems yet. And with the extensive tests MacTech has performed, it looks like I'll never have any problems with rust.

It won't rust. And if you want to knock that out just take a smaller dremmel with a fine belt on the drum and it won't take too long to get down to a nice even finish.
