salt pot ready to happen? Maybe

Smelly Antler Dust! (don't mind me, just experimenting with some new expletives. I figure we are five years into the new millenium... we shoudl explore new cuss-words!)

Hey Mark, those furnaces look nice! The only thing I can see wrong with them is the height. How much is this feller asking? How big are the ones you are getting? Do they regulate/maintain temperatures?

Yeah, those look great but be sure they're tall enough for the work you plan to do. One of the best things about salt is the ability to get even heating on long blades, something very difficult (for me at least) in a forge. That's the main reason I keep threatening to build one too - so I can HT the big blades I want to make.

Yep, Probably be too short for what I would want them for. Might go check them out anyway just for the casting use.

Mark, let me know what you think of them, and what he wants. We may be able to add a upper stack section and make them taller.I,m interested.- Stacy

Well, They would be perfect for someone that wants do do some casting. They look like they've hardly even been used at all. Said they came from a school. He also has a forge on a pedistal that is in newish condition. All are for natural gas hook-ups. He has tongs and copes and drags. The interior of the funaces look to be about a 10" diameter - 12" tall. He said he would take $500 for the whole shootin match. His shop is amazing. More machine tools than one man ought to have. He's building a 1/10 scale working locomotive that beats all I've ever seen. He's been working on it since 1989.

Funny how we knifemakers can think we are the cat's balls and all of a sudden we see what someone else is doing with their spare time. Rather humbling, isn't it?
