I have a Salt One. Yellow is a lot easier to find if you drop it in the autumn woods. I noticed that H1 seems to scratch a lot easier just from pocket carry than other steels. Has anyone noticed this?

H1 is a relatively soft steel so yes, its wear resistance will not be as good as the super steels.

The scratches on H1 don't have anything to do with it's relative hardness (57-58) but more with the composition of the steel and the final polish. It's just very susceptible to scratches, more so than other steels we usually see. The newer Salt knives I've seen appear to have a finish with less polish, making the scratches harder to see than previous finishes.

Here's a picture: 2007-08 H1 on top, 2005 H1 on the bottom.

Those scratches are like warriors' scars; marks of honor.

Since you mentioned it: my Salt is the only knife I've used in an actual emergency. My wife's young horse decided to jump a fence and got his front feet caught in the cross bars. He flipped over and I was afraid he would break his neck. I cut his lead rope with the Salt.

Good story. Always nice to have a knife handy.
