As I agonize over Hogcult and see that there is just WAAAY too many knives to choose from I got to thinking about what I do for hobbies and what I NEED over WANT.

I fish for Striped Bass a LOT from shore and my kayak for starters. Plus a lot of freshwater too whe I can't get to Cape Cod. So for that I was thinking about a good smaller knife to handle fish and attaching to my PFD when kayaking.

Can the INFI steel hold up to saltwater ok? I assume yes? If so, I have narrowed that 1st pick down to 3 knives, lol.

For my other knife....I am stuck for my chopper. Too many options. I have a TM I just recieved via a gift. But........

I am hoping to save enough cabbage to pick a chopper and a smaller knife and piggyback them with a firesteel. Then I will have everything I need. Oh and a kydex sheath for my PFD.

Indeed. It is a catalog-configuration Randall #16 Diver's Knife, meaning a stainless steel blade (the upper edge near the tip is sharpened), thumb notches, brass single hilt, black micarta handle with a full set of finger grips, and wrist thong. It is a full-tang knife, meaning that the tang is visible along the top and rear of the handle, sort of like this:

ahhhhh......I wonder why more non-dive'" knives arent made from titatnium...its ultra light and incredible strong, no? not to mention corrosion resistant....

so its not titanium...how does the stainless steel hold up in the salt water?

working in and around saltwater for sometime in my earlier years, you can use any steel that you want to as long as you rinse it with fresh water and then coat it with a lubricate for storage, the best being kerosene.
i have dropped my shotgun overboard duck hunting, came home and washed it out with fresh water and them put in kerosene and wiped it down and it was good to go for many years hence.

if you must have stainless, randall is very nice or the spyderco h1 steel, but the above was back in the day, before stainless was readily available, and stainless will rust or corrode, left unattended, especially in salt or brackish water...

You would want a coated blade if you are gonna use a Busse for best results.

I think you are supposed to coat it in bacon grease for saltwater exposure.
;);):eek::eek:

I use my Fallkniven's went I go to the coast as the laminated Vg-10 is purty darn stainless, strong and holds a great edge. No rust yet!

Spyderco Salt with H1 steel. Save your Busse's for freshwater kayaking for Largemouth. Yes, we do have Largemouth in Eastern MA. I think a lot of guys fish LM's in the rest of the country only b/c they don't have the striper fishing and bluefish and false albies and such handy to them.

Best saltwater days fishing have been interesting trips. I trolled with fly equipment on the Horseshoe shoals about a decade ago. We musta landed 10 keepers for 2 guys in about 12 minutes. WOW! Also fished the surf off of . . . Lobsterville Beach (over the inlet from Menemsha) in the Vine'yahd and watched False Albies and . . . bonito(??). . . were chasing baitfish OUT of the water onto the beach. WOW!!!

Saltwater is a disaster on rods, reels, boats, and every other piece of equipment. I've got a lake-house now. STILL don't carry a Busse fishing. What if I dropped it???? EEEK! I have a pair of FLOATING pliers/cutters when I'm in the kayak, on the shore or in a "real" boat.

someone posted a pic, or maybe a vid, of a rusting x15 blade from benchmade. So far the reviews I have read about the spyderco salts are great. INFI may form a patina and not be hurt for any significant depth but I would not want to try that with any of mine. Maybe you can buy a hunk of INFI from someone who has modified theirs.
