Here's a few pic's of fishing for a local saltwater species we have here in New Zealand, the Kahawai (Arripis trutta) a very powerful hard fighting sport fish,...

These fish were taken on a custom build 7'11" 6wt rod based on a Reddington blank, with an Old Florida 'clicker' reel, using a custom built fast sinking tungsten shooting head, with Frog Hair shooting line. This one took a basic Chartreuse clouser.

Looks like our Bluefish! Looks like they fight just as hard there!

Do they eat them? Or sport only?

Hi, I fish them for sport, people do eat them, but they're not really rated as a table fish here. No not a Bluefish, we don't have them here, to cold I think. I've flyfished for them in Australia, were they call them Taylor, or Choppers, due to their very sharp dental work, so wire bite tippets are a must!

...yeah they sure do Bruce, pound for pound one of the hardest fighters in the ocean they say, and they get much bigger!

That forked tail is a sure sign of a powerful fighter.

Tough to beat Fly fishin for any specie.:thumbup:
My boy is pestering me to save money to fly down to your neck of the world to fish Trout.NZ is pretty awesome.
 
@Ebbtide, I'm just waiting for the summer to progress a bit, that's when the big males enter the river,.....Then she's all on!!

@mewolf1, You're darn right there my friend, it's "Fly or Die, 'cause to spin is sin!" You'll never regret coming down here mate. Lots and lots of big angry Trout just waiting for you and your boy,....you could always sell a kidney, you got two right? ,......;)

I hooked this Hen in barely 4 inches of water as she feed on the lake margins, had me well into my backing in no time at all, one blistering run,...Heaven!

...if you do ever make it down under, there's always plenty of cold beer in my fridge,...I'll even get low Alcohol beer to help your one kidney keep up,...
