I am basically looking for a reason to buy something serrated and Spyderco. So I have decided to get something for the car that I can use to get out of a seatbelt or whatever. I am intrigued by the Salt series knives and their rust free H1 and the price point. I am also intrigued by the assist and rescue knives. But I really like the Civilian/Matriarch knives. Are any of these soon to be discontinued ? I cannot buy all of them and am looking to spend $80 or less.

If it helps any, I have a PM2 that has been in pocket for 6 months straight except for the last 2 days . I carried my Manix 2 XL. I love the ergo's on both these knives .

Of the knives you mentioned, none are being dropped this coming year. However, the current C14 Rescue is being replaced by a Rescue 3. Handle will change from unlined FRN with a 2 way mountable barrel bolt clip to FRN with nested steel liners and a 4 way mountable three screw clip, blade shape is changing a bit too.

So I have narrowed it down to the Salts. Now to pick one. The Atlantic Salt is the one I keep going back to.

Really depends on your tastes and needs. Atlantic is the least intimidating, if you work with folks who are "knife shy". However, while I love small wharncliffes, I find I miss having some curved edge on larger knives when I need to cut something on a flat surface. With a large sheepsfoot or wharnie I wind up working with just the tip, which is somewhat inefficient.

Go with the one that's calling to you.

For myself, my favorite non-hawksbill serrated salt is the Salt 1. I find it more comfortable in use than the Atlantic.

Yes it is, but it's also discontinued. It can still be found by anyone who "works" to look for it.

Wow crazy... I bought a backup, good thing, why do they always seem to discontinue the stuff I like , they discontinued the mariner in h1 also and I don't have a backup it was too expensive...
