I'm not sure what Sam might call this knife or if it even has a name. However, while it was in my studio I started calling it the "Big Man Bowie." I forgot to measure but it must be around 16 in. OAL.
It's one of the five JS test knives presented by Sam for judging at this year's BLADE Show. He was awarded a JS stamp and he also won the prestigious George Peck Award for the best knife submitted by a new Journeyman Smith. Sam then proceeded to give the knives away to some special guys who helped and encouraged him along the way. Sam gave this one, the big one, to Ryan "Big Man" Hays.

You can see all five of Sam's JS knives together, plus some individual shots including his Peck Award winner, in Coop's excellent BLADE Show thread here:

And here's the story about Sam gifting the knives:

O man that is sweet I did not get to hold this one but I held one of his other knives and Sam makes a fine knife

just looked up 'badass' in the dictionary, and I saw a picture of this knife.

Killer works...
Killer clip, killer belly, killer point, etc.
Cool image of the Big Man Bowie, Buddy.
Thanks !

Doug

Thats got ATTITUDE written all over it. What a beast! Killer photo.
Cheers Keith

Nice, as always.

It would have been cool to be a fly on the wall when he gave all those sweet knives away to friends.

I am sure grins and giggles were the order of the day.

A brilliant composition. Sam's knives have won hearts all over the world, this we know.

You take it to another level entirely with the quiet juxtaposition of straight lines and curves.

Bravo!

Coop

Bigfattyt your right we were all grins and, we were also in shock.
Buddy thanks for posting this up and, a killer pic.
All I can say is that knife is just well it has some sexy curves.
For a big knife it is well balanced and floats in the hand.
Thanks
Ryan

During the photoshoot before the Blade Show, I had the pleasure, emotion and luck (this is for me) to have this knife in hand and see Sam assemble the handle.

His first sub-hilt !!!

I view "finally" finished... what hamon !!! Buddy "Bravo" ;) The knife had no name, it has one now... The Big Man Bowie......

Ryan, I prefer this version.... ;)
