Same Knife Model - Big Differences?

I recently started a thread asking a couple of questions about the differences in sharpness between my new Yojimbo and Ronin My First Spydercos - Sharpness Question and I wish to thank you all for your thoughtful responses, I appreciate it.

Now I have received my second Yojimbo and I have an observation and a further question.

The blue Yojimbo I just received is SIGNIFICANTLY sharper than my first black one and is at the very least equal to the Ronin. This answers the first post showing me that the black Yojimbo is not as sharp out of the box as it should have been.

My question is in regard to the compression lock. The lock on the black (dull) Yo moves considerably more than the lock on the blue (sharp) Yo.

From the photos it can be seem that the black Yo's lock engages at least 50% while the blue Yo's lock enggages maybe 30%.
Which lock is engaging correctly?

With the black Yojimbo being significantly less sharp than the blue Yojimbo and the Ronin, and the lock moving significantly more... can I make an assumption that this Yojimbo may have been previously used?

Please consider that these are my first Spydercos and I am extremly happy with all three knives in general. I have no previous experience with any other compression locks.

The difference in the fit of the lock can be the result if a difference of a few thousandths of an inch. I think you might be expecting a level of uniformity that just isn't going to be there.

You can easily tell if the difference in sharpness is due to use. Use a 10X or stronger magnifier to look at the edge (I personally have a 10x magnifier and a small handheld 30-60x microscope). You should be able to see evidence of any use, that would cause dulling of the factory edge, in the scratch pattern and microserrations. Check out this link on the Spyderco.com site to see a diagram of the scratch pattern and a discussion of microserrations.

So long as both are locking their blades up solidly, I'd say they are both engaging properly.

Now mine (when I first bought it) had the lever go even farther to the right, and there was some vertical play. I sent it to Spyderco and they fixed it: it now looks just like the blue one in the pics (at 30%).

I think both locks are engaged correctly. I agree with 4 s ter that you cannot expect 100% uniformity with this sort of thing. Shoot, I have one Sebenza that was 75% engaged out of the box, and one that was only 50% engaged out of the box, and I think most here would agree that the manufacturing tolerences of Chris Reeve's Sebenzas are as close as they get.

I thought my first Paramilitary was overengaged. The lock bar was within about 1mm of the opposite (right) side. I exchanged it. But I learned from this forum and playing with my second Para that engagement can be adjusted by loosening and turning the stop pin. If you're not satisfied with the engagement on either of your knives, try this (you'll need 2 # 6 torx drivers). For no particular reason, I adjusted my Para so that the lock bar would hit right in the center.

I am going to drop in to Spyderco and see what they can do about sharpening the black one...

I have also noticed they have different pivot bolts, and the indexing holes don't line up with the clip on the black one..
