I'm sure you guys are sick to death of the "how do I find out what type of knife I have" questions, but here goes, LOL. I was just wondering if there is an online photo guide somewhere that lists the various models that Victorinox has put out over the years. I just can't remember the model name of this one.

My parents bought me a Vic about 20 years (or more) ago when I was in the Boy Sprouts and I still use it. It is just a tad heavy for my EDC tastes, but I keep it in the glove box. The spring for the scissor is broken and I'd like to get it replaced. I looked on the Vic website and I'd rather not spring (haha) for the whole replacement tool kit. I guess the easiest thing would be to send it back to the factory, right?

Thanks for the info, guys.

My local hardware store sells SAKs and few replacement parts such as springs, toothpicks, tweezers, in the display case. Your local dealer may, too.

SMKW, Bladematrix, Felinevet, and a few ebay folks sell small parts on the internet.

I actually like the 'what type of knife' questions. They are like SAK nut trivia and sometimes help show some new collectible.

Probably the easiest thing to do is send the knife to Victorinox with a note saying that you would like the knife back as it is sentimental. They usually repair it, if possible, rather than send you a new model. You can put a spring in place yourself. But, Vic will clean, lube and sharpen it, too. Hope this helps.

I went to the smartknives.com website and took a gander, but didn't see anything that exactly matched what I have. I took a pic and I hope my resizer is working correctly.

Here is a list of the tools to go with the pics: Large blade, small blade, file/metal saw, wood saw, fish scaler/hook tool/ruler, scissors, can opener/small flathead screwdriver, bottle opener/large flathead screwdriver. On the back of the knife, phillips screwdriver, medium flathead screwdriver, awl, keyring. Toothpick, tweezers.

Length is 3.5 inches. Width is about 7/8 inch.

This knife has sentimental value. Do not send it back to Victorinox. It should still be under warranty, but I bet they will send you a new knife instead of fixing and returning your old one.

The vintage Champion does seem to be the best fit...not sure how I overlooked it while reading through that site. I most definitely do NOT want to send it in for repair and get a new model back instead.

How hard is it to change the spring without buying that tool set? Any websites that have instructions for doing it without the factory tools? Thanks a million, guys!

The closest current/non-discontinued model that I can think of is the Ranger – basically the same knife without the fish scaler and with a corkscrew instead of the Phillips on the back.

Is it possible to change it out without all the factory tools? What tools do you guys use? It looks like it would be pretty easy to punch out the old spring. Thanks for any info.

Changing the spring without the right tools is a 50-50 shot. If you smash one putting it in it cannot be used so if you have a few it can be done. Punch the old one out, place the scissors on a metal surface like a vise plate, hold the spring in position with one hand (make sure you have the right size spring as there are several lengths and bases) take a flat head item and place it on the base of the spring and gently tap the end and hopefully the spring will seat. ALTERNATIVE: If you want to send it to me I will replace the spring and return it to you no charge (not kidding). PM me if interested.
