I like the "less is more"-philosophy of puukko's and I enjoy making traditional scandi sheaths.

Here is my take of a sami puukko with fluted bronce and zebrano. It has the "big butt" to lay rock solid in your hand when you cut in a pulling motion.

The blade is 4,5mm Niolox, just a bit over 4", overall a bit over 8 5/8"
The sheath fits like a glove and holds the knife sturdy even if you shake it upside down. The dangeler can be taken off if you prefer to carry the knife in your pocket.

What do you think, all comments welcome :)

Very substancial and sturdy looking knife! I love everything about it....clean, smooth blade with evenly thin ground edge from tip to ricasso....and the ricasso
itself is just "less" to get more cutting geometry surface....excellent control in your grinding skills.
Also the well formed distinctive handle shape that I can feel just looking at it....sheath work is solid as well with a nice touch on the loop option.
Very nice!

Did you pre-shape the handle in any way before you inserted the blade? Or was all the sanding and such left to the end? Curious because I am planning a similar knife build and only seem to find pics of finished work not the steps for a handle like this. In particular I'm interested in how you form the curved end.

I enjoy making these kind of handles but they take a lot of time. They have to feel good in your hands without perssure points and be symetrical.
I shape the blade, guard and handle before I epoxy them together. There are two horizontal alignment pins in the guard/bolster and handle material so they come together the same way every time.
I shape the handle with sanding drums in a Foredom. You can get cheap sleeves from aliexpress, they work fine.

Here are some progress pics and a folder with more pics. Hope the help you out and don't forget to post pics of your knife :)

The pencil lines is where the handle is at its thickest

Draw tines trough the middle and measure out the same distance to the left and right to stay mymetrical

And only when I can hold the handle without feeling pressure points I epoxy everything together.
When you think you have it, lay the handle away and try again the next day. You'll be surprised.

Thank you, Hengelo! Super helpful! I'll have to post my results. Hopefully within the next month or two... gotta start forging the blade.
