hey folks.. after reading/seeing several threads and pics on these Sami style sewing kits, i just couldn't stop thinking about them and just had to try making one for myself.. i am please with how it turned out.. much better than i anticipated..
(many thanks to Stick65, Skog and wayland for the inspiration )
there is also a really cool shot of one of these in the Ray Mears Bushcraft, Sweden episode...
this was all primarily done by hand, i will admit to using a little bit of electric tools on some parts that were frustrating me...
it is made from a piece of deer antler that i shaped, hollowed out, sanded and then soaked in linseed oil, to give it antiqued/aged look..
i carved the lines by using an awl and a small triangular file.. i then filled the lines with a mixture of pine pitch, bees wax and crushed up oak coals from our wood stove..
here's some pics.. let me know what you think..
cheers.. Mike
