Hello again forum board,

I received the Samsher this morning, not knowing what to expect, I was somewhat disappointed at first, thinking "this is the famous Sgt Khadka work?"
Stay with me here as I am new to the arena, not knowing what to expect.
I thought this is ""Plain as could be" not even a marking/sign stamp- nada! Could be made by anybody and sold as Sarge work!
I email Yangdu and she sets me straight as to his work with no signature.
So I tried it out on some two inch limbs that have overgrown in the yard,it slices through them like a hot butter knife but a little sticky with maple syrup!

My thought is "this is a Warrior Blade" not for jungle work unless it means cutting through banana trees and such. I like it and respect it, but its not what I expected if you get my meaning, as compared to the AK 15, which I like very much, a stout stud of a blade! I expect the CAK to be the same as, well as the AK 18. Looking forward to testing these out in the next few days.

I recently order the CAK 16.5 and AK 18 so I'll have 4 of these magnificent blades to work with, with a few more in the selection bowl to consider.
Peace and Happiness

yup khadka blades bear no markings...
that may or may not be a good thing depending on the owner :)

imo sgt. khadka makes some of the finest blades offered by HI
his work is top notch and quite a few forumites feel the khadka samsher is a MUST OWN khuk :D

maybe its just to much khuk for you to handle ;) lol j/k
im sure others will chime in with their 2cents

The Sgt's work is in the *line*, design and execution of the blade...not in decoration. You will find that his work is true to it's heritage.

The good Sgt also, IMO, packs more good karma into each blade than any other maker (apologies to all of the fine work by the other master kamis).

But fancier? No...that's a western thing.

no worries H2O ;)

I'm not looking for decoration, just signature, makers mark so to speak. When the time comes and my grandson inherits this blade what is its lineage? Even if the carbon testing is done, it does not tell who the maker is! These are things that are becoming more important as every gereration passes. Sarge is a craftsman as are all the others that work these blades and it is important. Or why then put the HI stamp on any of the knives. It adds to the authenticity of the piece. And as a late added comment yes it is indeed very SHARP!

Ahh...I understand now.

It's having come from Yangdu...combined with the collective knowledge we share here of the Sgt's work...along with distinctive evidence of his work, added to the documentation now being recorded in these very electrons will demonstrate it's lineage.

The Sgt is an individual and not on contract with HI. It is only through HI's work that we are lucky enough to get any of his.

FWIW, most of the regulars here could name specific characteristics of his blades that will not be found in combination the same way when done by any other kami.

Examples...the full smooth convex of the blade...the old style bolster...the large diameter pins...I could go on.

We know these khukuris...they stand apart.

I think it is easy to understand. The SGT. does not want reconigition. He wants to be reconized by his superior work. :)

Well said Sams...thanks for finding the right way to say it.

I commend him for this, even though it is a hypocritical statement, but none the less it still is like paying premium for an unsigned Monet or Picasso; one day they will bring a high price for their quality of work, but be disputed for their authenticity. One other thing, we are in a world market place here, via the internet , and not everyone is going to be hip to the ways here, if you get my drift.

I think we like it that way...leaves more of them for us. I would be surprised if many folks buy these as investments though...or do you? I like them as tools...to help the kamis build a better life...and so I can say to buddies "Now *this* is a knife!"

There is variation with every Kamis work for HI, and with the Sgts. Many believe the Sgt's work is the best. His blades are few, though, and are highly prized. Fortunately, you can be sure and note the size and weight when you order a DOTD.

My Samsher is the only khuk I have by the Sgt.. I wouldn't be able to compare it to the 18" AK or others in this size range, but I'm enjoying it this far. I used it yesterday to split wood for a fire. It worked like a heavy hatchet, and the wood flew apart quite nicely.

I got mine more on the recommendation of the design by Fiddleback, rather than Khadka's reputation. The latter is certainly a bonus though if it is as people say!

But as it's been said countless times before on this forum, khuk selection is very personal, and there are a lot of models to choose from. Be sure to let us know how you like the other models you're contemplating, especially if you come across that blade that's everything you expected!

I was going to kid you a bit and say I would be glad to take that defective thing off your hands, but all I'll say is you have a wonderful knife there.

I have one from him that is almost identical, or I would have snagged that one you have when I had the chance. Almost wish I had, judging by the pics! Great knife and great snag.

I find the 18 AK with its 1/2 inch taper chops through the wood a little easier than the lighter Sgt 18 w/its 3/8 taper, but I'm keeping them all. I like them.:D

Thanks, its growing on me the more I use it, and I like the warm Hill walnut handle, feels good; the horn handles are cooler to the touch, good for warmer weather.
