Samson Scimitar in Elephant Ivory

I've wanted to get better pics of this and have been foolin' around with 'Coop's No Frills Light Box' I recently put together. I've never been able to cut the reflection enough to get any decent shots of shiny knives and this set-up really rocks for an old farmboy.

It's a mint 1990's-vintage BM Custom Shop, Samson-ground, ATS-34 (as etched on the blade spine) Scimitar with mirror-polished hardware and Elephant Ivory inserts. I was also fortunate enough to acquire the original box, paperwork and sheath with the purchase......a collectors dream.

What's the deal with the lower part of the upper handle in the pic? I can see the rayskin like the handle is disappearing. Are the insides of the handle mirror polished and it's a reflection?!
