Not sure if this qualifies as the "& more" or not, but here goes:

I recently moved to San Angelo and am BORED OUT OF MY MIND!!! Anyone have any ideas of where to go to get some decent time in the woods? I am so used to Austin and having a dozen or more parks and lakes within an hour's drive. Help me out, guys.

Thanks Y'all!

I've been to San Angelo several times but was hunting private property so didn't explore the town. What about the state park ? Isn't there a reservoir(almost dry I am sure) nearby that might have some trails etc. I can understand the change from Austin to San Angelo, but that is some pretty wide open country and it has a beauty of its own.

Hopefully someone will offer some good suggestions. Good luck.

I have an idea.
MOve back to Austin! I will see you there in a couple of years when the wife graduates from college. :)

Yea...O.C. Fisher has been at 1% for years apparently. The park is nice, I suppose, but I have heard (and only heard) that the trails are pretty tame. All that wide open land, though, is private. That is the general case down here in TX. Nice if you like having large plots of land, not so much if you like stomping around outdoors.

I would love to, but I am currently on an internship out here. It's only set for a year, but they sometimes become permanent spots. I will, however, be taking plenty of time off back to ATX.

The state park has miles of mountain bike, jogging, horse riding trails. There used to be a 30 mile out and back. They used to have a biking club and if they still do you might get someone to take you out to show you the trails. This is the time of the year to learn the trails, while the reptiles are hibernating and the temperature is under a hundred. I don't know what the rules are on camping. I think there are some caverns SW of San Angelo. Some indian paintings near Painted Rock. The Lowake steak house....The Old Time Pit Barbeque....If you enjoy shooting they had a decent gun club there. Just to spread out your time a little. What's your internship in?

Thanks for the tips! I'll be looking into some of that. My internship is as Youth Director at a local church.
