siegle 9.75 in. chopper
went to public area about 55 mi. from austin & tried out my 5160 siegle. his blades really hold up well . i'm not a good chopper this took about 15 min. but at 71 i ca'nt complain about my health. the huge tree is a pecan about 200 yrs. old

Did you kill a perfectly healthy tree to show us this? Or do you plan on using the wood for something? I love the knife, but there is no point to do this. If you chop down a tree every time you get a new chopper, then we will not have forests anymore. I hate to even address this, but you need to be told. I look around the picture and there are literally hundreds of logs you could test the knife on. I hope I am not coming off as a jerk, but it is important for me to address this. The knife really is quite stunning and I apologize for having to say this.
 
Well, I guess the tree that was chopped in half won't have to worry about getting to be 200 years old, eh?
 
PDE & Stickman, I agree with you. But this might be a Chinese Tallow (trash) tree, in which case it's not such a bad thing.
 
this area is so thick with grown up briars , bodark, cedar elm, china berry & other trash trees that i'll probably cut another one down next trip. please do'nt be alarmed because i always eat what i kill. on larger kills i drop some off at the food-bank. this roughage is good for the bowels--keeps ones intestines in top shape. thanks for the responses.

Dennis I can only hope and pray that I am in as good as shape as you at 71! That Siegle is a great looking blade, got some really good bite on it I see.

If you get time (yeah, someone always wants more...) how about a few shots of the blade in-hand, up close and personal? I would be interested in the specs of the knife. I love the way it just has what it needs and no weird aesthetic "signature" to set it apart from all the other choppers. THAT seems to set it apart in itself.

the siegle weighs in a little less than 16.5 oz.--15.5 in. length--very near 1/4 in. stock. these knives were introduced to myself by a well known formite W.Martin [dr. bill]. i contacted bill siegle in montana but he was' nt taking orders at time but mentioned he did put knives in the custom sale area on ocassion. i was somewhat familar with busse & ferhman but dr.bill whom has tested about 200 choppers steered me to siegle. siegle used 5160 on this one -differentally heat treated and will shave hair. i chopped on old dead mesquite with razor edge --no chipping or rolling .mesquite is 50% harder than hickory. blade is about 9.75 in. length & is about as much as i can handle at 5'9" in height. the ferhman final judgment is about 9.5 in. in blade but does'nt cut nearly as well as the siegle,however i ca'nt fault the 3v alloy eric uses--ca'nt get it dull. however after all i did saturday the siegle only took 6 minutes to start shaving hair once more.

as you guys can tell this area is real thick--would love to take my dogs but so many feral hogs in here that an uneducated dog would be killed since all dogs will chase pigs.the front man was'nt loaded & a 250 lb. boar ran right past him So no one got a shot. we have to travel single file in this jungle. i was fishing one time & a 200 pounder swam across the river about 50 yds up.very fatiguing since you have to duck & lift briars up to cross under while stepping over dead logs. no snakes the hogs ate them all.

p.s. we got some fox squirrels also & like a dummy my small knife was an endura. very hard to clean squirrels with a tact,put a muskrat in pack for next visit.

Good grief. Excellent post Dennis and a sweet knife. I have a young woods myself that needs some thinning. I especially like to remove box elder and hawthorn. Grape vines are also fun. Can you recomend a recipie? :-P
