Hey folks, just came back from the San Jose meet which proved to be both relaxing and intense in an rather humid environment. Vito's was okay, knife nuts ate a well balanced diet of protein, carbs, and fat (pizza) followed by classic protein supplements (beer) and energy drinks (soda). Fellow forumites JCHH and Steve "The Iron Chef" used a smart strategy of short bursts of eating and browsing the knives.
Got to meet some new and old faces and some old and familiar knives.
Many knives in attendance were but silently, the most common knives were
DA MT LCC
REKAT Sifu #1 and it's D2 and multi colored spawn in red, green, and CF
Spydercards and Toads (almost like a Biblical plague)
An invasion of Strider tanks, eh GB folders which can double as fistloads for NFL and NBA atheletes and are bigger than a pistol magazine.
A pack of Mad Dogs
A large dab of Mayo (the only kind of mayo that has no calories and gets better with time)
Various size HI Kukris and a katana
Various autos
Other outstanding knives were
MT CFO (if a Shaquille O'Neal needed an auto it would be this) and Option 2 (smoother than Spydercard but I still wouldn't stab
with it).
The Talmadge Tactical Kitchen Knife, smaller than I thought but very versatile.
The Jim March Outsider which is nearly the same size.
The Crawford/Worden Wortac, smooth as the KFF with a grip that melts in your hand. If I win the lotto...
CRKT Companion and Bear Claw, nice feel on both. Sheaths well go see Normark for that.
Spyderco Military and Police, still sexy after all these years
CRKT Ryan 7, nice and broad like the Companion. It is like a folding bolo than a barong.
The Spyderco Chinook and Strider GB were more like a folding barongs and krises. I'm waiting for a folding Kampilan or broadsword, it'll be interesting who makes that.
AG Russells folders, very nice overall. I'd say it was eclectic in appearance.
Carson F4, subtle and nice. I'd like to throw one.
DDR Custom Arclite, very nice.
Long knives/swords/boot daggers ala E. Mayer and J. Hossom
Livesay WA-1 and Walkabout sticks, I liked the Walkabout's heft and it created deep resonance than the WA1 when I accidentally hit a parking meter or three.
JSP Bandando, very very wide when open seriously.
KerUUK, easily one of most eye catching pieces and underrated till it's in your hand. Honestly, it's for folks who wish they could carry a pinuti, or a talibon (a northern Filipino Bolo, not the Middle Eastern government structure) I see the KerUUK (which I couldn't pronounce) as a beefier extension of the Perrin Jaws line.
I would get it with the g10 or micarta.
Perrin La Griffe 4" blade, nice as always a smoother feeling grip than the EKI. Interestingly, I saw this as a good companion to a Griffith Sniper nearby.
I do regret not bringing everything I had but I was glad to talk to everyone at least once, especially the lurkers. I found that Eda Koppo had more keychain toys than keys and Steve Harvey and I have similar tastes in short knives.
For those who couldn't make it, we missed ya.
Oh yeah, I brought a BM CQC 7, a Comtech Stinger, and medium Batangas Balisong that scared a passerby. But that's another story
