Evening gents

The blade for this vest Bowie is 6" long and 3/16" on the spine, it has a core of 80Cr V2 which has been laminated with Hitachi Shiro 2 and outer layers of 431 stainless. I've not used these steels in this combination before and I was really pleased how the carbon in the stainless has migrated into the Shiro 2 layers. The steel single branch hand guard has been cold blued and the handle is a lovely piece of stabilised Hawaiian Koa held with one stainless pin, the overall length of the knife is 11 1/8".
The double welted sheath has been dyed walnut, with a black patterned front panel with small domed pins surrounding an inlayed python skin panel. I hope you like her, thank you for taking the time to look and all questions and critique very welcome.

Happy Easter

Steve

Love it! Great profile and choice of materials, I think the stainless with shiro laminate is a very unique and cool idea. Was the raw billet of shirogami from Dictum? I always look forward to seeing your work here.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment guys it's always very much appreciated.
The Shiro 2 Paul I get from a company here in the UK called Workshop Heaven. The material is already laminated and I generally use it on stock removal knives, but I had off cuts that weren't big enough for a knife but weren't small enough to throw away. So laminating them over the 80Cr V2 core and then laying the 431 stainless on that made sense and gave me the opportunity to forge a blade from materials I hadn't used in this combination before.
Usually on a san mai blade I lay the 431 direct to the high carbon core and really didn't know how this was going to turn out, but I am really pleased how the carbon has diffused into the layers of the Shiro 2. It gives the blade a more unique and interesting pattern, I think after the way this one has turned out I'll be using this combination again and of course I get to use my scrap off cuts.

I agree with others comments. The steel really sets the knife apart. The lamination lines have a great pattern and visual appeal.

The whole package really tickles my fancy.
