Hey Everybody!
I have been out of the loop and haven't finished anything in a long time. Thankfully the Fire and Brimstone Hammer-in gave me a real motivation to finish some things up. Here is one of them.

A little San Mai Tanto.

OAL: 11.25" (with sheath) 10.5" (knife only)
Blade Length: 6"
Blade: Cable/1075 san mai blade
Fittings: Wrought iron, copper, stabilized manzinita burl, and tiger maple, secured by a brass pin

The knife will fully disassemble when the brass pin is removed. The tiger maple was treated with resin to seal it, then the whole knife was treated with Tung oil for a semi-gloss finish.

Please let me know what you think. If I can find some-one to split a table with at Blade show (in June) then i will have it with me, otherwise it will be going up for sale soon. This is my favorite tanto mounting so far. i am very happy with it.

A favorite!
Can I have it? :)

*laughs* if i cant find a table at Blade Show it will be going up for sale, so, YES!

this is one of my favorites too. I really like the proportions, and it has the right shape in and out of the saya.
thanks for looking!

Boy, that is really nice. I generally favor cord wrapped handles on my tantos, but that knife is very appealing.
I'd love to see a larger version, maybe 9-ish inch blade.

I'm always a fan of your Japanese blades, and this is no exception. I love the combination of the two woods and the wrought iron. A minor point of criticism, though, did you mean to make the yakiba so narrow?

I appreciate your comments, and critique. No, it was not my intention to make the hamon so close to the edge. the blade was thicker, and the cable closer to the edge which affects it. however, i thought i was kind of pretty, and not worth re-doing. i prefer the hamon higher up, but i am still working on making that happen.
thanks!

Outstanding,Chris-A great combination for the san mai-Its good to see you posting your work again-thanks for sharing

I'll tell you, Chris. That one just looks great! The form factor of the sheathed knife is exactly what I would be looking for in such a design, and you did a great job on that blade. I had a hamon turn out closer than I'd like to the edge as well with my last finished knife. Still learning the hamon thing :D.
