Heres what you can do with good files and sandpaper. I know the question "What grinder do I need, or what power tools Do I need", well with a little determination and patience you can make almost anything with common tools. I have 2 belt grinders, and just about all the common knife making tools, but You dont have to spend a fortune to make a nice knife. The only tools I used on this knife was a gas forge, sand paper, and 2 new nicholson files, a old hand turning drill, and a whole lot of time, Thanks Matt for all the help without your guidence I would be lost!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you guys very much for the nice comments!!!! That makes all the time it took to make it worth it!

My hats off to you sir.
It's good to do somethings the old fashion way once in a while to insure you appreciate the modern conveniences. ;)

Thanks again guys, I have some very good photos but when I try to load them it says " file failed to load", I dont understand what Im doing wrong?

Good Lord!!! What a tremendous effort, and what a great result!!!

If you would like to try to send me an email with the pictures as attachments, I will be happy to try to post them myself here in this thread for you so everyone can see them. Whatever you feel comfortable with. My e-mail is litterbox1@gmail.com (yea, I know--don't ask me to explain).

And BTW, do you have a website?

Not only is that a great looking knife, but it was made very simply. Good to see what can be done with just some common tools. Great job:thumbup:

Hey Matt, yea I got 2 grinders but I just did this to see how it could be done. I have made maybe 4 or so and I found out a tremendous amount about knife making in the process of making this knife. A big problem I have had was taking to much off in places with my Bader, well using just files and sandpaper it dosent take very much off so you have more room for margin of error, thanks again guys,Charlie

Holy cow Charlie, that is some kind of beautiful knife! It makes my whole upper body hurt to think about making that knife the way you did... :) That is truly inspirational. We should use this as an example what can be done with basic tools when the newbies ask - no more excuses! :D That's amazing man. My hat's off to you too.

By the way, nice hamon. ;)

Hey if you want to email me the large images I'll post them inline here for you. dave.larsen AT mac DOT com.

Charlie,
I like that knife a lot. And to think I look at my KMG everyday and dread paying for sanding belts, lol! Great Job!
