I am looking to set a friend up with a sand paper sharpening set, my question is fairly simple.
Is there a company that sell a nice all inclusive kit, or is there a thread I missed that truly discusses this subject in great detail?

Thanks Phil

You certainly have missed *the* sandpaper sharpening system! The Washboard Sharpening System is designed and built by BF member Heavy Handed, who's also a pretty prominent poster in this sub-forum.

I have not personally used this system yet. Every time I see it, I'm tempted to get one. I will probably eventually own one. It seems to be very inclusive and should be able to sharpen all the way from "butter knife dull" to nearly mirror polished and just about anywhere in between. It also comes with his own formulation of compound and what looks to be a pretty nicely illustrated booklet detailing how to use the system using very sound sharpening principles.

I have the prototype. It works as advertised, especially the paper based stropping. The strength is at giving increased tactile feedback and almost no rounding of apex during stropping, zero in fact if one uses the tactile feedback as guide. Check him out. He's also very helpful and has shared many insights on this forum.

His booklet and videos are top notch in helping understanding what sharpening is and how to achieve the results free hand.
An outstanding guy in my view.

Hello,
I just updated the site with a few more options and listing an upgraded honing compound that can better handle high Vanadium content steels as well as everything else.

There are videos, text description, and a copy of the user's manual on the site, linked below in my signature.

Its everything you need to get started and then some.

Thank you,
I honestly forgot about the washboard sharpener, I am a tri-angle fan boy, and forget there are other products.
Phil
