I was messing around with my beater horseman tonight and decided to strip the blade with Talstrip (aircraft coating remover). It obviously removed the spraypaint, but with a little more soaking and some finger nail scraping I got the factory black coating off.
Looks like the blade is sand blasted, which makes sense, and the laser logo and info is etched into the blasted surface so carries through when the coating is removed.
Anyone with a beater black blade may want to give this a shot to see how it looks. Brushed the clip to match too.
Edit: I took some pics outside with better light. Other pics made the blade look toxic-green. It's a grey sandblast.
Don't mind the scales, I removed and sprayed them with OD krylon as I had a can on the shelf. I wanted to see how it looks as I'll be making some scales and am undecided on color. Leaning towards urban-grey, but OD's not bad.
