Any of you fellas ever sandblast, or otherwise texture the aluminum handle of a knife for added traction/grip? If so, how did it turn out? I am thinking about doing this to my Gerber 06.

if you blast an aluminum item down to bare metal you will have issues with wear and corrosion.

What would you recommend to offset those issues? Any coatings that I could then put over the aluminum?

Aluminum oxidizes rapidly. This aluminum oxide protects the surface.
You will be fine.

I've machined aluminum, and as far as I know, it's stainless. Have never sandblasted it, but I've sandblasted other metals. Since aluminum is soft, make sure to use a fine grit of sand or glass, or you'll end up with too much texture.
