Is anyone sandblasting the flat side of a chisel edge blade? I thought it might create drag, or tiny serrations maybe

It doesn't make any appreciable difference in my experience. It might add some drag, but not something you'll notice under any normal cutting conditions.

I have used an orange-peel texture on the back of some of my titanium chisel ground blades. It is more extreme than bead blasting for sure.

I have noticed it gives the titanium a toothy edge (nothing you can see or feel, but I think it is there), which I think is good for titanium.

When doing chisel grinds on the water stones, I leave the back at matte finish on a medium stone ( 400?). It doesn't seem to matter. I think sandblasting should be about the same.
I would sandblast the whole blade, and then do the front bevel on the belt grinder or with stones. This will give a matte blade with a bright and smooth bevel.
