So I got my first Umnumzaan yesterday and I love it! But like everything else I just have to make it my own so I decided to personalize it a little bit. I wet sanded the scales and clip with 300 then 600 then 1200 for a two tone finish. That finish may not be for everyone but I like it so I dove right in. I heat anodized the standoff to a deep blue. Then made a rattle snake lanyard with a hinderer XM-24 standoff as a bead that I heat anodized to a light blue. Then I cleaned her up, lubed the pivot and perforated washers with CRK grease, and adjusted the tension so that it flips open like lightning. Here are some pics.

Very nice job.

Thank you! The lanyard is actually pretty easy to do. If you look on youtube there are a few tutorials on how to do it. A lanyard like that would take me about 1/2 an hour but my buddy cranks them out in like 5 min. Once you have done them a few times they are cake.

That finish is AWESOME!!!! I love it. Way more character than plain!

Thanks Maprik! I appreciate the compliment. The pictures do it no justice at all. It looks much much better in person. It looks alot like pewter. I thought about going as far as a mirror finish, but this is my EDC and I didnt want to have to wipe finger prints everytime I touch it.

I like this finish. I did the same to one of my umnums. Yours came out good!

It IS very hard to capture the entire finish correctly in a picture.

Did you sand it or use scotch brite? I'm contemplating trying a scotch brite finish on a sebenza user that I have, just so I can see if it comes out different then sanding.

I used both! Sandpaper to hit the edges, then scotchbrited to blend! I'll try and post a pic if I can.

I love the look, and hope mine looks like that after 10 years of carry / use. Mine has the LBS so I don't know if scotchbriting it will give a decent appearance since there are teo kinds of metal present.

I haven't handled one with an lbs yet. Can you take it off and anodize it? Or put a .40 cal casing in place of or over top of it?

i scotchbrited my Zaan last week :D i really dig the look! And its fine to go over the overtravel disc it accually help to blend it in with the TI,

I used scotch brite on my Zaan I bought in 09'. I didn't used as much pressured on the sb on the clip as you did tho.

I like the look of sb Much better than the matte finish.

i really dont mind the disc at all. most of my other folders have some type of overtravel stop. it fills its purpouse. what most people complain about is the look if you can get over that its fine. but as i said earlier and said many times is why dident CRK put the disc on the inside and just hide it, would been so much less drama about that damn disc then :)

Yeah. I hear you. I like the lbs on my other knives because I make .40 cal covers for them but the umnumzaan has such a streamline look a hidden one would have been nice. I honestly don't mind the look of them though.

Seriously, before I scrolled down, I was like WTF, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Then after I did scroll down, WOW looks amazing. Good job.
